Hey John,

I took a look at your own spare bedroom to theater conversion... Is your screen wall just a flat black or is there a texture to it? I like the look.

The drywall has a slight orange peel texture, but the paint is just a flat midnight black.

I'm rather proud of my Fixed Screen. I Mounted a couple of boards between my audio towers and covered them with black presentation board and used a tile border acroos the top to tie in the look. It all hides the rat's nest of wires and cables.
My Theater:
Panaconic AX200U Projector with 100" Elite Screen 10 feet away.
Onkyo TX-SR606 Reciever
Klipsch Synergy F1 Towers with Klipsch Quintet III surrounds and center
Boston Acoustics 12" Sub, KLH 10" sub
Sony PS3 60g, Samsung BD-UP5000, Sony 400 disc DVD changer

EZ frame 1.1 gain Cinewhite.
It works well with the lights off for a movie or on for a football game.

My wife isn't a fan either. The entry hall to the theater is one of the few white walls left in our house. The only thing that is keeping that wall white is my fear of heights for painting the opposite wall above the stairs. My guess is that excuse won't last much longer now that you brought it up. (Thanks a lot!)

Bump!
I've added 2 more theater seats...... Too many?

All seats are about 11 ft from a 100" screen.
Should I put in a riser and have two rows?
Please advise.

If you put in a riser, that's going to bump your front row up to about 4-5 feet from the screen, which would be extremely close.

I just measured it out.
You're right. 4 ft froma 100" is asking for a neck injury.
Thanks for the reply.

My theater room 15x17. It was an already existing room that I converted into a HT. I spent just under $12,000 so far for supplies, materials and components. I want to add acoustic panels, 2 more seats, movie posters and some small accessories. Pics are in my build thread but I will add some to this thread soon.

Another small dedicated theater is featured in the October 2008 Sound & Vision magazine. It is a Theo Kalomirakas design in a 12x14' room where he actually narrowed the space, but they did bump out the front wall a foot to get some breathing room for the front row.

Can anyone recommend some Shallow theater seats or sofas for a small room?

I want to do 2 rows with a riser, but the room is only 13 feet deep. I figure I make a 54” deep riser at the back, with 32” deep seats, and 22” isle, with another set of 32” deep seats up front. I have found a few casual accent chairs here and there that are 32” or so deep, but would like something “nice”.

Has this been a problem for anyone else with 2 rows of seating?
A fixed couch in the 2nd row is going to be your best bet. That will allow you to have a shallow riser and then put additional seats in the front row. Most recliners require a good 67 inches or so to fully recline, so that would be putting your front row pretty darn close.

If you want movie theater seats for the back row go here.

Seeing as this thread played a huge part in me taking the risk to build my HT in such a small room-despite several naysayers-I thought I'd join in. Veeeery cozy and heat is a huge issue. I'd like to eventually hide the wiring in wall and add some moulding but for now :
