Guys, I finally got a response from Aquos support straight from the engineering department:
"This unit has a 48hz that does 2:2."
So the Sharp LC-46D64U now does 2:2 playback of 24fps material. However, only serial numbers beginning with letter C or above (i.e. D, E, etc). The firmware is also designated with the letter S rather than older models which have the letter U.
Aquos support has indicated that this is a hardware upgrade and older sets cannot be upgraded to offer this.
