So far all Visio displays are 60HZ only refresh. I have heard recently that both Dish Network and Direct TV are offing a few programs in 1080P. I do not know if the receivers have an option to output 1080P/24 and might only output 1080P/60. Hopefully Dish Network and Direct TV will offer receivers that have an option to turn on 1080P/24 in the menu. BLU-RAY bit rate for MPEG-4 is much higher compared to Dish Network and Direct TV MPEG-4 so the 1080P movies look better on BLU-RAY. Also Dish Network and Direct TV do not support 7.1 PCM or DTS-HD master audio. Still it is great that Direct TV and Dish Network are offering 1080P select movies for consumers and hopefully some networks in a few years will switch to 1080P. Sports programming would look awesome in 1080P. When Internet speeds increase over the next several years maybe someone like Direct TV will be able to match the quality of BLU-RAY if they allow 50GB of data for each movie download.
Currently BLU-RAY with its super high bit rate for both video and audio on a 50GB disc is the best consumers can experience at home. Maybe in 8-10 years a 4K optical format might be released on the market that is better then BLU-RAY.
