So, with his set-up, do you think it would be better to wait for the BD50 or do you believe the PS3 would be a good option?
That's my situation, I have decent (ie: no need to upgrade based on audio performance) receiver/speakers, but no HDMI. Seems like a no brainer to me to get a Bluray player that internally decodes all the HD audio tracks and outputs on analog 5.1 (or 7.1 if you need, but I only have a need for 5.1). I'm willing to pay a few hundred more for a player with internal decoding since it saves me $500-$600 on having to replace a perfectly good receiver just to get HDMI and internal decoding in the receiver.
I already have 2 xbox's that I use solely for streaming Media Center throughout my house (I'm not a gamer and don't own a single game), so I'm not fundamentally against buying a gaming console for non-gaming uses, but in this case the BD50 makes more sense for *me*.
