Right, that insert is what I'm referring to.

It was about $8 per channel before, so $11+ per channel but I get the On-Demand I stopped paying for because I didn't want to pay for it anymore doesn't seem like a good deal.

But if it's $11+ with or without, I'll take with until I cancel one channel...

OK, I'm breathing easier now. The website shows $10.95 for 1 channel but $23.95 for 3, which is about what my bill showed, so maybe they are giving away the On-Demand with just a minor price hike on the channels themselves...

Does anyone know what an acceptable signal strength level is for OTA? I got my attic antenna set up this evening and am pulling in all of the Columbia stations. Signal strength is varying between mid 60ish on the low end and upper 70ish on the high end. This is with the antenna temporarily wedged in the corner of the attic. Once it's permanently mounted it will be higher and I assume those numbers will go up a bit. Giving TWC the boot and switching back to DTV.

DTV = Digital Television
D*=Directv

Sorry, but I'll disagree with that any day of the week. Maybe if someone could possibly explain how Directv = D* then maybe I'll change my mind. Echostar=E* makes perfect sense, D* makes no sense. Maybe when Directv changes their name to Deathstar or maybe just Dstar I'll go with it.

Mark - What do you call Digital TV then?

DirecTV is known, here (and elsewhere) as D*, BECAUSE DishNetwork is E*. You figure out an easier way to distinguish the two, so be it...

Until then, you'll be corrected every time...it's not a big deal.

I'll go with you on the DTV=Digital TV not Directv. In my mind D* will never=Directv. Or should I say: I* m* m* D* w* n*=D* since apparently it's perfectly acceptable to represent a word by using the first letter followed by an asterisk? And before someone else jumps in and says that's how it's known, I really don't care, to me it's a ridiculous representation.
That's how it's known.

AKA pizza pan, overly-compressed, limited connections, no locals service.

and you have to pay for a rental box. Example: HD dvr $199 and second HD dvr $399 . I am not cheap ,and I wouldn't mind paying for a stb. if it was my box to do with what I want to . Also, they are pushing the non ota hd dvr this season.

Mark,

I live in Irmo, and have an external antenna. You might be able to boost your numbers with an amp from Radio Shack. For me:

WIS -- 90s
ETV -- 100
WLTX -- 80s
WOLO -- 80s
FOX -- 0 - 25

Most of my signals are reflected. I be with an exteral antenna, you would have strong signal across the board.

Yep, with my rooftop mast style antenna all channels are maxed.
With my indoor antenna all channels are between 75-88.

And Gary J - You keep cracking on D*/DTV's (just for you mark ) PQ, and I've yet to see a major difference between what my in-laws get with TWC and what I get with D*. This, of course, is with the new channels...not the original channels that are slightly lower....and I dont' really count ESPN since ESPN looks like crap on both sides...because ESPN doesn't (IMO) do a good job with that anyways...
ESPN HD looks awesome on TWC for me.
The carolina game look like crap and you know it. It wasn't TWC or D* fault. It's ESPNs feed.

I did a little tweaking this weekend and got the antenna mounted on a pole. I'm now I'm consistently getting signal strength in the low 80's to upper 70's. Experiencing no dropouts or picture problems so I think I'm good to go.

Just noticed I am getting National Geo HD channel 844 on TW in Surfside.

My Directv installation went smoothly so I'm completely off TW now. Still learning the ins and outs of the Directv DVR. Picture quality between the 2 is pretty much a wash. The HD channels on Directv looks awesome, some of the SD stuff is so so. I will say that the locals look better via the antenna than they did on TW. So I now have Big 10 network and NFL network, more HD channels and better looking locals via OTA.

It's supposed to rain Saturday.

Get off the rain thing already. I had Directv way up north for 10+ years and can count on 1 hand the number of times I had issues with rain fade. That was with rain, snow, ice, sleet and whatever else falls out of they sky up there in the winter.
Mark, my son and my mother both have been using directv for around 10 years and both of them tell me the same thing. I have never seen it go out and I've been at one or the other's house in thunderstorms and rain and I have never seen any problems.

Oh, Gary's just perpetually grumpy. Must be from living with Granny.
Either that or living in(on?) Pawleys Island and it's really bad golfing

And, My D* doesn't fade very often..more than my TWC, but less than my E*...

welcome to the land of a multitude of HD channels Mark .

Plus, you now get to see my Cowboys stomp all over the Panthers on NFLHD

Anybody else hearing a loud crackle in the front channels of the 5.1 audio on WLTX. That sounds like crap. Wish they would get this fixed already!

Thanks, I'm loving it. It's still like a "kid in a candy store" experience for me. NFLHD: where have you been all my life?

I'll also add a "me too" for wishing WLTX would fix their audio problem. I know someone who works there, I'll try sending an email and find out who is responsible for the audio quality. It's been going on far too long. If I watch a sporting event on WLTX, it's usually so bad that I turn the TV sound off and listen to some music.
Agreed! Aside from the annoyance, I do have concerns about potential damage to my speakers from the crackling. I'm not a speaker expert, but it seems like this cannot possibly be good for the longevity of the speakers.
Anyone have any idea when the CW station is going to go HD? I know they've got digital up, any chance HD will get there soon?
