Digital to analog HD sound converter????

Thread Starter
I have a Yamaha RX-V659 that I love. I would like to send the HD soundtracks on movies via HDMI to an analog converter that I can send ot the 5.1 discrete analog inputs. Does anyone make this and if they do'nt, they should.

It's called a new AVR / Processor and/or using HDM players that have multi-channel analog output.

It would have to have all the software, legacy and lossless as well as extremely high grade Multi-channel PCM to extreme high quality analog outputs.

Well don't that just stink. Guess I 'll be putting the 659 on the market.

OR buy a player that has analog outs and can decode the formats to analog!

Gefen is promising to offer something that will do that. There's already a thread on it here and early announcement at the Gefen website. I saw a mockup at CES.

Really? I think if it works well, I bet it will sell well to alot of PS3 owners who have non-HDMI receivers.

Edit: I believe to have found the item in question from the thread Mr. Rubinson was talking about, but idk if it is the same one shown at CES. At $400, I retract my previous statement about it selling well.

PS3 will be my player of choice, until dedicated players with analog outs come way down in price I guess I will have to settle for plain old DTS and Dolby farmats. I really wouls like to hear the difference in the HD formats though.

Not possible yet.

Kal, is it not shipping? It is listed as purchasable on the Gefen web page and it certainly goes into the shopping cart.

I was told it would not be shipping until the end of March. I have not seen one yet (and I have asked).

Why would they not make this with at least 2 or 3 HDMI inputs? This device makes no sense to me.

good question. dont have answer.
im considering one ('supposed' to 'street' for under $300); if it works well with one source i'll then have to add an hdmi switch for multiple inputs. (more things to go wrong)

i called gefen last month; gent said device should be out end of june, '08; along with realta based video processor.

I found this device:http://www.cypuk.com/cyp_techpage.ph...ct=313&&parent

Looks like the gefen product but cheaper, if I converted correctly. I can't seem to find it for sale in the states. There are a few people on the avforums that are using with their ps3.

Cannot decode the HD codecs but will work if the player converts them to MPCM.

From my interpretation to reading the info about it, one would think it would be capable to do so. Especially after reading the PDF...

Read it carefully. HD codecs via HDMI to HDMI. MCH LPCM via MCH output ports.

Ah yes my mistake. For some unknown reason, I was forgetting to look at the output section for MC analog, and instead looked at HDMI.

Yeah. It is too bad but the cost of licensing the HD codecs is probably out of the range for a small manufacturer of a low volume product.

Very likely. Considering this product is intended for a small number of consumers.

I'm confused. So this won't work with a ps3? It says supports LPCM 7.1 channels output through multi-channel output ports. Doesn't the ps3 output LPCM?
