I'd recommend 1.3 if you are going to use 1080p/24 or may in the future. 2.0 users have reported quality problems after the update.

I'm running v1.3 and no problems here.

I use 1.3 and I have had no reason to update. As I've said before (and so did the person I stole this from) "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I'm sorry this isn't an actual answer to your question, but can someone tell me what it means to bitstream true-hd?
Does that involve using the analog 5.1 outs and sending the audio out uncompressed to a receiver/amp? If so, I thought that was PCM. Maybe bitstream is using HDMI, although I don't see how that is bitstreaming either, since it's uncompressed also I thought. Thanks!

"Bitstream" is to send the signal as raw data out through your player (HDMI for high definition formats, optical or coax for standard DD/DTS) and have them decoded in the receiver. To send them out as "PCM" is to have the audio decoded inside the player, and sent out via PCM (already processed) so your receiver can spit them out through the speakers. This is helpful for some HDMI 1.2 receivers, or receivers with 5.1 analog out because it still allows them to use TrueHD (note: DTS-HD MA cannot be sent PCM, only bitstream).

Bitstreaming is taking the audio "bitstream" from the disc and sending it directly to the external audio processor via HDMI. If the audio bitstream on the disc is PCM it's just sent out HDMI too. If the audio bitstream is not PCM, but decoded into PCM first before sending to processor, it is not "bitstreaming". Get it?

SO did the A-35 bitsrtream out of th ebox or was that in one of the updates?

Also any reason not to go to 2.0 if I have a 720p pj?

I think so. Thank you also to Luigi. I am going to be getting the A35 in the mail soon, and will be using the analog 5.1's. From what I understand, I will not be "bitstreaming" because the player will be doing the decoding (to DD+ and DolbyTrue) and sending it out PCM to my receiver, bypassing any decoding in the receiver, and just dumping it to the speakers as uncompressed PCM. Yes??

correct--but I have an onkyo 605 so I am reaaly looking forward to sending the bitsream so the receiver can matrix for 7.1...

Correct. With analog output there's no bits to stream. The PCM is converted to analog and sent to the receiver. The receiver will convert back to PCM for audio processing (speaker distance, bass management, etc) unless you have it set in some sort of "direct" mode.

If you don't need 1080p/24, then I say go with 2.0.

Where can one find the 1.3 firmware? I just ordered the A30. Would it be the same file as for the A35?

Thanks,
Jason
