Does anyone own this yet? SOunds really good, he said it basically just falls short in black levels of more expensive units, but beats it in sharpness. And seemed to be alot better to him then similar priced models like hc4900 and sanyo.

I went through the review and really liked the colors on this thing, I guess im up in the air now between this and the benq W5000, guess whichever I get cheaper.

ALthough I read black levels on these two are only decent. I have a hc3000 I hope there not worse.

Reading the review again, he mentions that the projector is fairly bright, in bright mode over 1000 lumens and actually 506 fully calibrated which he said was brighter then most. Yet when he took pictures he mentioned at times how the optoma image was dark, IM thinking of when he compared it to the panny and sanyo, but yet the colors looked much brighter and richer in those pictures for the optoma. The optoma did not look darker, the other two just looked washedout.

What Im trying to ask, is how can this be a bright projector yet even comparing to some screens with the sony which I did not think was bright at all, it still looked darker in comparison pics.

Photographs are almost never close to what is actually on the screen.

Im aware of that, but there is no way there could be this big of difference. He also commented using his own eyes that its a bright projector, but then later said it had a darker image. He is also a professional and has a camera that the difference between pictures was significant enough that the actual image in person had to be somewhat representative of what was displayed.

Hi
I’m getting mine installed this Thursday. The demonstration I saw in the shop was very impressive compared to more expensive models.

If buying the model you will need to pay close attention to the installation restriction as this model is very restricted. I got caught out on this but the installer promised me it would be ok for my room even if the Optoma web site says otherwise. Mine will be ceiling mounted but wont have the correct height as recommended by Optoma.

Apparently they are going to slightly angle the projector and use the keystone function to adjust the picture onto a 106” screen. Not sure if this will affect the picture quality

This unit is approx twice the price here in Australia compared to the US but I like the 3 years warranty and spare lamp deal here in Aus.

So, Angiep...

How do you find the HD803?

What size/type of screen are you using, and what did you own before?

Thanks in advance...
