Washed out picture on my DVP5982

Just got the player and love it a lot but everytime I watch DVD's especially 4:3 with black pillar boxing the picture seems very washed out, almost like I can see a faint white over the black pillar boxes. It is hooked up to my Panny 9UK via a HDMI to DVI cable I got from Mono Price. Now the reason why I think it doesn't look right is because my PS3 does a fantastic job with the picture and nothing seems like it is washed out at all. I've tried to copy the PS3 settings from the TV and applying them to the input on the TV with the DVD player hooked up to but it doesn't seem to work. Do I need to buy a true HDMI blade for my Panny 9UK? Could this be a result of going the HDMI to DVI route?

I also forgot to mention that the PS3 is hooked up via HDMI to HDMI which is why I'm thinking the HDMI to DVI could be the problem but I'd like to hear what you guys have to say

Just tried hooking up the DVD player t the HDMI in that the PS3 is hooked up to and everything looks fine. The picture isn't washed out like on the TVs DVI input. So is there a problem with my DVI blade?
