I recently got a Vizio 42" 1080p and hooked it up to a Time Warner Samsung cable box via HDMI. The SD quality is ok, but all the HD channels have a greyish fog. The picture sharpness isn't bad, but it looks kind of washed out. The OTA broadcast HD stations are way better; it's what I expect HDTV to look like.
I tried two HDMI cables, and each of the two HDMI ports on the TV. I even tried a second cable box that I have for a small (26") CRT HDTV. Same thing. The HDMI output looks good on the 26", but the HDMI inputs on the Vizio work great for DVDs!
Component output from the Samsung boxes to the Vizio is very good, it's just the HDMI that's subpar. So, the Vizio HDMI inputs work great with the DVD, but not with the Samsung box. Does this make any sense? I'm really pleased with the Vizio and would hate to return it, especially if I find out that there is something else the matter. I just don't know what to try next. Any suggestions appreciated.
