My second video game console. The Atari 5200!

Posted

Pros: Graphics, Sound, Atari 2600 adapter add on, Easy Set up and rugged construction

Cons: Joystick controllers

My second video game console was the Atari 5200. The first was the Atari 2600 that was purchased before Christmas 1977. The Atari 5200 is a slight improvement in graphics and sound over the Atari 2600. The Atari 5200 is an early Atari 400(?) little computer without the floppy drive. It is easy to set up and connect to most any pre HD TV. The downpart of the Atari 5200, other than the size of the console itself is the combination Joystick and keypad controller. It is easy to break with rough handling. The sound is good at capturing the 1980's home arcade games. I also liked the Atari 2600 adapter that allowed playing your Atari 2600 games. My favorite Atari 5200 games: Star Wars-The Arcade...

Xbox Console

Posted

Pros: Graphics, Sound, Game play

Cons: None

The video game console that started Microsoft on the path to video game console domination. The Xbox. This was Microsoft's first, not to be confused with the current (2014) Xbox One video game console. I still have some the games from this Xbox console that can be played on the Xbox 360. The Xbox is a solid, reliable console, with excellent game play capabilities, a good controller and sound that brings out the arcade experience to the home. It is sturdily built like a tank. It can handle a lot of rough play. Set up is easy. My favorite games: Battlestar Galactica, Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Curse, Star Wars The Clone Wars, Tetris, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Atari Anthology,...

Nintendo Gamecube, Good comes in a Cube.

Posted

Pros: Game play, Sound, small size

Cons: Not HD, Games are on mini discs.

Nintendo's Gamecube video game console is unique for two reasons. 1. It is in the shape of a small cube that can be easily taken anywhere to be played. 2. The games are on mini discs. The Gamecube's graphics are not High Definition. The picture quality is very good. It has solid game play. I love using the Gamecube's controllers. They are easy to hold to get a firm grip when playing action games. The sound is good. It captures the arcade sound effects accurately. My favorite games: Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3 (This has the original Atari Star Wars arcade games from the 1980s. You will have to turn up the brightness and contrast for Star Wars Arcade and The...

My fifth video game console Sega Genesis 32X

Posted

Pros: Easy to set up, Sound, Graphics

Cons: Game play with the Sega Genesis game pad is difficult

The Sega Genesis 32X was my fifth video game console. I purchased it from Video Trading company in Johnson City,TN. The Sega Genesis 32X graphics and sound are comparable to the Super Nintendo video game console. The game pad however is not as good as the NES and SNES controllers. Set up is easy and not hard to do. My favorite Sega Genesis 32X game: Star Wars Arcade 32X. The only reason to get a Sega Genesis 32X video game console. However, using the Sega Genesis game pad to play Star Wars Arcade 32X is the most difficult, if not unpleasant gaming experience I have ever done. I would have preferred using an arcade joystick to play this game.

Super Nintendo

Posted

Pros: Easy to setup, Graphics, Game play and Sound

Cons: None

The Super Nintendo was my sixth video game console. The Fifth was the Sega Genesis 32X. I bought both at the Video Trading company in Johnson City,TN. The SNES has superb graphics and sound. The game play is good, comparable with the Sega Genesis. The SNES controllers are like the Nintendo controllers and Sega Genesis Gamepad controller. If I remember correctly, the SNES controllers had to be held at an angle to use them in the best way to play some games. The SNES is easily connected to your TV. Although by todays TVs with HDMI connectors. You will need a Composite to HDMI Converter to connect the old style consoles to the TVs we use today. My favorite SNES games: Super Star Wars, Super...

My fourth video game console Nintendo NES

Posted

Pros: Sturdy, well built game console. Good graphics for its time. Good arcade sound and game play

Cons: None

My fourth video game console was the Nintendo NES video game console. It does not have the great graphics of the game consoles of 2014. As the early 1970's game consoles were dinosaurs. The Nintendo NES is a stone age caveman. It is a sturdy, well built game console that can take a lot of punishment. The set up is easy. The sound captures good arcade sound. The game play is still fun for getting a nostalgic arcade feel. The graphics are not great. But the game play makes up for it with easy to use controllers. My favorite Nintendo NES games: JVC's Star Wars NES, JVC's Star Wars V The Empire Strikes Back NES, Super Mario Bros. Gauntlet, Gauntlet 2.

My third video game console Atari 7800

Posted

Pros: Improved graphics compared with the Atari 5200 and 2600. Backwards compatible with Atari 2600 games. Sound. Game Play

Cons: None

The Atari 7800 was my third video game console. It has improved graphics compared to its predecessors the Atari 5200 and the Atari 2600. The Atari 7800 is backwards compatible to play Atari 2600 games without an add on adapter. The Atari 7800 graphics are comparable to the Nintendo NES game console. Game play is like the Nintendo NES. The Atari 7800 controllers are similar to the Atari 5200 controllers without the keypad and built more sturdy than the easily broken Atari 5200 controllers. Setup is easy. The sound is good. It captures the arcade game sounds fairly good. My favorite Atari 7800 games. Pole Position 2, Joust, Food Fight and Xevious.

A nice game system to own

Posted

Pros: Backwards compatible with some Xbox games that I own.

Cons: A Hassle to set up Avatar and online info. The price of online game add ons. Red Ring of Death.

What can be said about the Xbox 360 that hasn't been said already. It is a nice game system I used to upgrade from the Microsoft Xbox game console. The first Xbox 360 console I had cost $300.00 and it got the dreaded Red Ring of Death and I purchased a second Xbox 360 for about $150.00. I chose the Xbox 360 because of the console's backwards compatibility with some Xbox games that I own. Setting up your online Avatar is a drag and the hassle and price of online game add ons is not good. I use my Xbox 360 for gaming and streaming Movies and TV shows downloaded from my laptop onto a 32GB Flash Drive. But, the Xbox 360 will not play the stream media until you convert it into a video and...

A good but not great entry level soundbar

Posted

Pros: It has good sound. It can be used with most universal remotes

Cons: No subwoofer,. No surround sound. No Bluetooth. Not Wireless.

The RCA RTS735e Sound bar is a good but, not great sound bar. If you have a simple TV or projector setup and want to be able to hear the audio without turning up your TV speakers at full volume. This sound bar is a good buy. Remember to set the audio on the TV remote to 0 or you will get an echo effect from both the TV speakers and the sound bar speakers. If you want a sub woofer and surround sound, you should get a sound bar that offers those features. This does not. The RCA RTS735e Sound Bar has four built in speakers with two sets of analog audio inputs. It has Line In for Apple iPods, iPhones and iPads. It can be either wall mounted or free standing. PROS: It has good sound quality...

Pros: Lara Croft, Lara Croft in Hot Pants, Graphics, Music, Dialog, Sound Effects

Cons: Some of the Challenges are too hard to complete.

Lara Croft returns in her third high definition game for the Xbox 360. Tomb Raider Underworld. Lara Croft deals with a demonic monster doppelganger that destroys her mansion in the final part of the Atlantean trilogy. Graphics, Music, Dialog and Sound Effects are as good as in the previous games. Gameplay is also the same with a few challenges too difficult to complete.Lara Croft is still raiding tombs for ancient atlantean artifacts against rival archaeologists and saving the world from Armageddon. Hideous Monsters are still out to devour Lara. Lara triumphs in the end to go on the the bonus downloaded level Beneath the Ashes an underground adventure in the caverns beneath Croft Manor. A...
