Winner of the AVS Forum/Sony Immersive Audio AMA Giveaway

immersive audio

On March 7, 2017, AVS Forum hosted the second Ask Me Anything sponsored by Sony. The topic was immersive audio, and tech expert Bob O’Donnell answered a slew of questions about it. In addition to a lively discussion, anyone who submitted at least one question in the pre-event thread or the actual AMA thread was entered to win a brand-new STR-DN1080 AV receiver with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X immersive-audio capabilities. (Those who submitted more than one question had no greater chance to win than those who asked only one question.) This beauty isn’t even on the market yet, but one lucky AVS Forum member will be among the first to own one. (For more on the STR-DN1080, click here.)

With 287 valid entries in the AVS Forum/Sony giveaway, the chances of winning by random drawing were—well, 1 in 287. But someone had to win, and that someone is Adam Stamos.

“I’ve been a member of AVS Forum since 2008. I joined specifically to get help buying my first real speakers (i.e., not a home theater in a box). I ended buying some bookshelf speakers from Emotiva and a couple of TSC 10” subwoofers from an extremely helpful forum member, all of which I still love and are now being used in my office.

“When I moved from a condo to a house in 2010, AVS Forum was instrumental in helping me put together a more serious system, which consisted of an Onkyo TX-NR1008 AVR, Paradigm speakers (Studio 20 speakers for front LR, CC-590 center, ADP-590 surrounds, and a Studio Sub 12 subwoofer), and a BenQ W1070 projector with a 106” screen. Now, I’ll be looking into what to get for heights based on my room shape and size. Even when I’m not actively buying, AVS Forum continues to be a great source of knowledge helping me to keep up to date on both current technology and the products that best use that tech.

“I’m super excited about the growing popularity of 3D positional audio. As a gamer and a big film/audio buff, I think the potential for 3D positional audio is huge across various media. Whether increasing the immersive nature of a film or using it to help tell a story in a virtual-reality game, the possibilities are nearly endless.”

Congratulations on being the winner of the AVS Forum/Sony AMA giveaway, Adam! You’ll be one of the very first consumers to get an STR-DN1080 AV receiver when it ships in a few weeks, and you’re sure to enjoy it for years to come.
