The new Emotiva PA-1 monoblock class-D power amp offers high power in a compact package for less than you might expect.
Emotiva has long been a leader in low-cost, high-performance audio gear. At CEDIA next month, the company will add to that reputation with the introduction of the PA-1 monoblock power amp. A new addition to the X Series Stealth lineup, the Emotiva PA-1 is a class-D design in a compact package measuring 1.785″ (H) x 8.5″ (W) x 9″ (D). In fact, two PA-1s can be mounted side by side in a standard 1U rack space using the optional RK-1 rack kit, which can also accommodate a single PA-1.
This little gem is rated to deliver 140 watts RMS into 8 ohms or 300W RMS into 4 ohms. Its ICEpower 300ASC amplifier module features its own built-in switch-mode power supply that can operate at any line voltage from 100 to 240 VAC. It runs cool enough to be left on 24/7, or it can be set to turn on when it detects an input signal. The single input jack accepts an XLR or 1/4″ balanced connector. (I assume it will also accept a 1/4″ unbalanced connector, but that would not convey the advantages of a balanced connection.)
The Emotiva PA-1 includes protection circuitry that guards against faults without disrupting operation, and it automatically resets itself when the fault is removed. On the outside, the PA-1 features a heavy-duty steel chassis, solid milled-aluminum faceplate, and top-shelf components throughout. Emotiva backs up the PA-1 with a five-year warranty.
According to Dan Laufman, President and CEO of Emotiva Audio Corp., “Millions of music lovers prefer monoblock amplifiers for their clarity, definition, and overall authoritative sound, but until the PA-1 came along, the size and weight of most monoblocks made integration with desktop and custom systems a challenge. The PA-1 is designed to be the most flexible high-performance monoblock on the market. The fact that it’s so affordable is typical of Emotiva.”
The Emotiva PA-1 is available now for $299.
