Epson Home Cinema 4010 4K Pro-UHD Projector Announced

Epson is challenging the notion that great 4K HDR home theater projection needs to cost a lot with its Home Cinema 4010 4K Pro-UHD Projector.

The Epson Home Cinema 4010 4K Pro-UHD projector ($2000) is a new offering from Epson that possesses the same image processing and pixel shifting technology as the recently announced Pro Cinema 4050. It achieves DCI/P3 gamut, supports HDR, outputs 2400 lumens, can achieve 200,000:1 contrast, and has a 15-element motorized glass lens with wide adjustability.

According to Epson, this projector delivers 100% of the DCI/P3 color gamut. What’s more, the lens offers “powered focus, 2.1x zoom, up to ± 96% horizontal and up to ± 47% vertical lens shift, and 10 preset positions.” Image processing is performed in 12 bits and this projector’s final output is 10-bit video (for proper HDR support).

Here’s the full feature rundown from the press release:

Epson 4K PRO-UHD Technology – Utilizes dedicated hardware processing to precisely control three-individual 1920 x 1080 LCD panels that accepts a maximum input resolution of 4096 x 2160.

Epson’s new Home Cinema 4010 4K PRO-UHD projector represents a new type of 4K experience for home theater projection,” said Rodrigo Catalan, senior product manager, Projectors, Epson America. “Utilizing proprietary resolution-enhancement technology, along with advanced forms of HDR and image processing, the Home Cinema 4010 produces incredible brightness, color accuracy, and image detail for the ultimate 4K experience.

For those familiar with how Epson positions itself in the projection market, the introduction of the Home Cinema 4010 4K pro-UHD might not come as a surprise. For others, this is absolutely a shock, it’s a price point for a feature set that makes projection appealing to anyone on a tight budget, that’s looking for a bigger picture than a TV can provide.
