Questions about RCA DRC8052N IEEE1394

People keep telling me to get a DVD recorder to archive Laserdisks, but in many cases I would prefer Firewire, especially if something needs editing.

Lately I see a lot of these RC DRC8052N units on ebay with firewire port.

Since a firewire port is most always Bi-directional (isn't that part of the specification?) .

I must ask, has anyone tried to use the composite input on this device to get a Firewire out?

If it works that way then I might kill two birds with one stone by trning composite video into frewire by way of this DVD recorder.

Thanks
Mark

Sorry, not finding how to edit OP

But also is the tuner analog only? Can it tune ATSC or QAM channels?

THanks again
