Replacement drives are no longer available.
They stopped selling them about three years ago.
1. You can keep using the DVR as a time shifting device like a tivo and erase recordings to make room for new recordings.
2. You can play HDD recordings into another DVR or PC for capture and save or burn using the DVD burners on those devices.
3. You can remove the hard drive and connect it to a PC and buy a license to Isobuster to copy the recordings to a PC and save or burn them using the DVD burner on the PC.
The DVD burner might only need cleaning, but eventually they do wear out, but the tuner and hard drive tend to last a lot longer.
Lastly, you can sell it on eBay.
The MDR557 has a modern ATSC digital tuner and can record over the air signals, record standard definition video from camcorders or old VCRs and will sell, even broken for a good deal of money. It is important however to be honest that the DVD burner no longer works and its only being sold for parts and is not fully functional.
