Exclamation ONKYO HTIB Pricing Fraud? Please Advise

Hey AVS fam,

I have a great concern about an Onkyo product's pricing and was hoping I may get some advise and/or assistance here.

For a couple years now I have been eyeing the ONKYO ST-HT9800THX 7.1 HTIB Surround Sound system.
If I recall correctly, the MSRP was $1399.00 upon release in 2017.
This system was released as the successor to the ST-HT9700THX.

I had planned on purchasing through Amazon Prime (Listed at $1299.00)
I figured black friday would be the perfect time to do so.
Back in October I had discovered that the system was out of stock on Onkyo.com and all authorized retailer sites.
Amazon, Best buy, etc.

Since the system debuted in summer 2017 I figured this was a sign a 2020 model was being prepped for release.
Upon reaching out to Onkyo directly via Twitter/Instagram DM they confirmed the model was still in production.

The system has not been restocked on Amazon or Best Buy, but it was re-stocked on Onkyo.com at the original MSRP of $1399.00.
I figured I'd wait it out.

Last week I started seeing Onkyo discount ads popping up on Instagram/Facebook pushing the following:
"$650 OFF THE ST-HT9800THX!"

NO WAY. It's the moment I've been waiting for!
*Goes to Onkyo.com*
$650.00 off original MSRP of $1699.00
Sale price: $1048.99

I AM LIVID. I can't describe how much i wish I had screenshot the true original MSRP.
This is not okay.

I've reached out to Onkyo via Instagram/Twitter DM and email.
They were quick to respond to my concerns before.
No response on this.

I called and they said the logistics department is closed but will reopen on Monday.
I will give them a call but really need to track down the original MSRP.
Wasn't there a press release back in 2017 with that information?
I'm hoping Amazon, Best Buy or any other authorized retailer can help me prove the true MSRP.

This is beyond infuriating and taking advantage of their customers.

at that price I would be looking elsewhere. You can piece together a better setup for that kind of budget.

I'd really rather not build one.
I love the HTIB approach instead buying all the pieces by different brands and such.
It's a much bigger headache for me personally and paying for a complete set with amazing features and staying in the onkyo family for other products just makes sense for me.
