I bought the fc-7 just over a month ago and about 5 weeks later it stopped recognizing disks. I called Best Buy and thought I was starting the usually nightmare where I had to send the unit out to Sony to be repaired and I told the Rep there that the unit was a BestBuy.com purchase and she couldnt figure out how to handle my issue and went and got the manager and amazingly he said if he had a boxed unit he would just swap out the unit. They did and it was one of the nicest experiences ive ever had at Best Buy.... Now it gets better.

Because there was a price drop I got $100 back and it only cost me $40 to get a 4 year service plan, so now im protected and will get what ever Sony has out near 4 years as a free upgrade if my unit suddenly doesnt work. ;)

But all and all this is a great playing unit. I've heard mixed opinions about the wattage output in large rooms but I have a huge livingroom and I have never raised it above 14. The DVD quality is unbelievable and I also have a 51inch Sony ws510 with Dishnet HD and could'nt be happier!

fc7- small satt.s all channels
fc8- tower left and right channels, satts in rear
fc9- towers for all 4 main channels, beefier, powered from the unit sub

all have same reciever/dvd player and center channel (mountable under genuine sony stands).

not sure about the wattage-if there are increases, but it will be on sonystyle.com

hope this helps

Fair enough. You basically confirmed for me that the answer is "not much" beyond aesthetics. Thanks!

well, yes and no. the towers DO sound much better on the 8 and 9 and the sub adds a lot more punch and realism on the 9. good luck!
