for a price range of around 250-350 tops...looking for at least a multi disc dvd player and radio tuner...would love for the speaker connection to use A/V (the red/white/yellow ones) instead of hte copper wire (or whatever it's called) that some systems uses ~~> does it even make a difference?

not a big room at all, but just want something so i can have one, and hopefully not break that easily...sony dream system?...panasonic ht700?...please recommend some...thanks a lot

Any of those are good. Sony HT7700D might be nice, although it does go past your price range a bit.

Believe it or not, Zenith actually has some decent units that you can even order on Amazon if you feel like it.

Zenith XBS344 or DVT 312. DVT216 is older and you might get clearance on it.

I think that XBS one might be newer and a little better.

Good luck!

With your bedget, you should be able to find a decent selection (especially if you dig around online and/or a member of some wherehouse type stores like Costco).

I have heard very mixed reviews on the Sony Dream machines and the Panny HT-900. Haven't heard too much on the HT-700, but you might want to check out some of the other threads in this forum, as someone posted a link about the Panny.

I was originally going to get the Ht-900 but decided, at the last minute due to some reviews, to spend a little more and get a Denon HTIB system.

Like you are already doing, I would stick to a name brand, and with $350 max to spare, that should not be a problem.

Personally, I am not a big fan of 5 disc carousel for DVD players, but that is just me (CD, on the other hand, I have a 5D and like quite a bit).

Personally, I would vie toward those with separate components if possible.

Also, do you have a DVD player already? If so, or even if not, you may want to consider a better unit that has just the amp and speakers, and attach your own (or a new one) separately. The reason I recommend this is because DVD players (even with prog-scan) are getting so inexpensive nowaways that you could get a better then average sound system for the $350 now, use your current DVD player for a while (or pick up a new cheapie), and then upgrade to a better DVD player at a later time.

Just throwing out different ideas for you, sorry for the rambling.

Good luck!

Of course, this is just my opinion, and I could be wrong. -- Dennis Miller

For the same general price range, $250 or less, are there any really decent 5.1 receiver + 4 spkrs + sub packages out there? I plan to get a Momitsu DVD so I don't want one of the packages with a cheap DVD. JBL used to sell some refurb systems on ebay that were supposed to be quite good and went for ~$250, but they seem to have stopped moving those.

yo LV Mike, no rambling at all, thanks for your insights...i dont have a dvd player (except PS2)...i jsut want to get a whole set instead of piece by piece b/c my living is small, just wanted one just so i can have one...if i ever move to a bigger place, i'll definitely do the piece by piece option...
