I guess you could do Gentle Giant: The Power and the Glory as you would get great music, incredible 5.1 mix and video to boot.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

Agreed. I'm 29, and love classic rock. I enjoy all the high quality ones too. Will have to give LCD Soundsystem a shot. Saw James Murphy once at Gathering of The Vibes.

Good music is good music! hear hear!

James Murphy is a massive audio and music perfectionist. He is awesome. My father in law is a big Rush\Hip\Dire Straits\Springsteen fan. He loves LCD too. A must buy if you like the band, post punk, alt dance or indie music in general. Very fun special guest appearances.... including spaceships.

I saw that you mentioned the "Hip" so had to check and, of course, see that you're Canadian! Although I've been living in Panama for 25 years, I'm Canadian too...love the Tragically Hip!

Cheers

I just checked out some YouTube clips of Shut Up and Play the Hits...I will pick up a copy of the blu-ray!

I would have agreed, except that the idiot has to ruin it by interjecting all the person cr#@p throughout the concert.

ruined it entirely for me

A quick look at Amazon reveals that only Alchemy appears to have made it to BluRay. There's something a bit special about this one though, and that's the bonus material in the form of 2 episodes of the BBCs Old Grey Whistle Test, one from 1978 and the other from 1980. This BBC show was famous for showcasing some of the best performers in rock history. Just about everybody who was anybody appeared on the show. The BluRay is worth having for the extras alone. (I'm about to order my copy).

Edit: Ordered. Thanks for reminding me that I was missing this concert.

Spoiler!

The one I was talking about was their farewell concert from Melbourne. I don't believe Hell Freezes Over ever got the blu ray treatment

Own the Dire Strais Alchemy bluray. The stereo mix sounds better. The surround mix is pretty average. Not very dynamic or present at all. Good performance still.

The Melbourne concert made HD-DVD, but not Blu-ray. That's about the only reason I still have my HD-DVD player still around. Alchemy audio is good, not great. The video is old SD, but fun nonetheless.

Steve Wilson has already been mentioned, his "get what you deserve" Blu-ray concert is awesome.

But I'd say my all time favorite is Pendragon - Out of Order Comes Chaos. The more you listen to it, the more you feel "where have you been all my life". Soaring guitar solos with synth background and tight precision bass and drumming. They're often classed as a Marillion tribute band, but they've taken the best of the music style from early Marillion and refined it way beyond anything they ever accomplished. Just have to ignore how they look :-)

I had this one on DVD and thought it was one of the best DVD concerts I had...so I was a little hesitant when the blu ray surfaced, thinking it couldn't get much better. Boy was I glad I double dipped, now it's one of my favourite blu ray concerts

Thanks for the rec! I take it the recording/5.1 mix is top notch? Solid low end support?

While I wouldn't put it quite in the same league as Jeff Beck's Live at Ronnie Scott's or the Eagles Farewell 1 blu's, it is, in my humble opinion, a must have if you are a fan of the genre. It is a very entertaining concert, chock full of hits from two of the great blues legends, performed by a very talented young guitarist who is backed up by a great band and performed in a cool venue. Sonically and visually, very pleasing!

The is also Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris: All the Road Running DVD from 2006.

Mark and Emmylou sound really good together, their voices harmonizing beautifully. The set list is mostly non Dire Straits stuff but there is some classics like Romero & Juliet and So Far Away.

My copy turned up in the mail yesterday. Well worth buying. So far I've only tried the surround soundtrack. I'll probably give the stereo version a spin over the weekend.

Spoiler!
