However, the jewel case cover and the CD do not have the SACD logo. It does say DSD Direct Stream Digital Recording yet no SACD logo

So, did they simply ship the wrong version?

Also, am I correct to assume that the "SACD" version of this will be multi channel?

Has anyone heard this and is it a recommended buy to have in the collection?

Maybe someone here has it and can confirm if its multichannel.
It is multi channel, and it's a great recording. It is a good way to see if you are interested in classical music. If you don't like it, you probably won't like other classical music. If you do like it, I have a couple of other classical music favorites for you to try. It is NOT discrete, classical music multi channel recordings are going for greater realism.

This is the page I bought it from 15 years ago, and it is still live on Amazon. If you look on the front cover, it says SACD on it.
Unless you can find an SACD logo on it, I would assume it is the CD version, and you should contact Amazon for the right version. They will ship you out a new one, and also have a return label at their cost for you to print out to ship the CD back.

Put it in your player and see what it says is playing back. Or just look at the cover. If it just has the Compact Disc logo it isn't an SACD.

I finally had a chance to check on the Crimson - Live in Mexico disc. I heard no difference when I switched between the video and audio only versions. In fact, switching the video to audio only is probably the only easy thing to do on the overly complicated menu. There was also no difference in audio output on the display on my OPPO 205.
Did you check this while using the sub- menu?

Nice, I listen to that one regularly. Do you get any sluggish performance or lag with menus navigation? I do, and also sometimes the menu cursor just disappears and I have to stop abd restart the disc. So annoying. I notice it happens with several blu-rays, especially those with animations.

Wife and kids are out of the house this afternoon so had a chance to listen to:

Alan Parsons Band - Eye in the Sky (blu-ray, 5.1) <<< Never knew them until recently but what a great surround mix.
Billy Joel - The Stranger (sacd, 5.1) <<< Forgot how good this mix is, very discrete mix.
NIN - Downward Spiral (sacd, 5.1) <<< Think it's been years since I listened to this one. Pretty good mix. Super heavy bass.
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (sacd, 5.1) <<< One of my favs.
Depeche Mode - Exciter (sacd, 5.1) <<< Just got this one, decent mix but not as good (less use of surrounds) as Violator.
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger (blu-ray, 5.1) <<< Kind of meh.
The Foundations - Greatest Hits (dvd-a, 5.1) <<< Just got this one... And it's now my worst sounding surround album. Terrible sound and mix.
Jackson Browne - Running on Empty (dvd-a, 5.1) <<< Very weak surround mix.

They simply shipped me the wrong version as the jewel case I received and the Disc both are without the SACD logo. Playback is straight CD. I will return and shall try to obtain from a diff source.

There are plenty available on ebay for about the same price. It's great music. The 1812 Overture is the party piece with cannons and guns, but I actually like most of the other music on the disc better. I'm guessing this is Telarc's most popular SACD ever. Been in constant production since release as far as I can tell.

I played a couple of the songs that weren't in the video. They sounded like a studio album compared to the ones in the video. Maybe those were mixed differently.

I bought the CD of Running on Empty a year or so and the sound quality was miserable. It was distorted and had a high noise level. There were some Linda Ronstadt CDs that sounded like that too. It seems as if record labels doesn't care much about California rock.

I have a different recording, also Telarc and Kunzel, of the 1812 Overture along with Wellington's victory that has "digital" artillery in it with a warning on it. It's stereo only. My dad had an earlier recording that also had a warning on it. Normal home stereo stuff in those days couldn't play that stuff at any volume without damaging something as you found out. Of course, a decent modern system eats that stuff up.

Telarc produced a couple of albums that were seriously out of spec in the early days... There was a Peer Gynt / Carmen Suite disc that had a kettledrum hit at the end of the Carmen side that was completely untrackable. The needle would bounce around in the groove like crazy and if your anti-skate and tracking weight weren't set just perfect, it would jump out of the groove entirely. I would bet every single existing copy of that LP has damage at the end of side 2.

I didn’t notice anything, but as soon as the wife saw the animation on the GnR disc, I had to put it on pure audio. Definitely NSFW.

I’ll put it in my 203 later and give it a workout.

Check the seller. If Amazon is out of stock, they’ll automatically switch you to a marketplace seller.

Matt,

It's the CD/Blu-ray set per the product description and pictures on Amazon. I just added the set to my cart from two sellers (Rarewaves and Prime) and both were around $13. Not sure why you are seeing a much higher price.

Lol... yeah Rocket Queen especially. I've noticed lag to be a problem for most DVD-A/blu-ray with animated menus. Maybe my BDP 103 is too old (doubt it). I may try switching with my UDP 203 to see if there is any improvement. It doesn't happen all the time but it is a recurring issue. No problem with (perfect) blu-ray/DVD-A that have no or minimal animations. It happened with the Soundgarden Superunknown and Badmotorfinger blu-rays so I returned it (Amazon) but it was the same with the new disc. Maybe it's my player but I suspect the animations are to blame. It's what I hate most about these blu-ray and DVD-A discs... the silly and unnecessary animations.

Interesting. I've only listened to it once after I bought it last year and wasn't particularly impressed, at least with the 5.1 mix. The sound quality was good but the mix seemed very ho hum. Maybe I'll spin it today. I also received Bob Marley's Soul Rebel DVD-A so I'll try to listen to that one too (I don't have high hopes though for a budget DVD-A of a very old album put out by Silverline.

I just listened to it today and the SQ is excellent IMO. If you have the Legend Blu-ray from the link I posted from Discogs then I'd be surprised if you were not impressed. I'm not sure if there are different Blu-ray versions that have different 5.1 mixes.

Hmmm, I can click on a Amazon button but that's only for a CD and the play list shows 14 tracks, as well as clicking on "28 New from $8.38" and the description there is "Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers (New Packaging) (Audio CD) ".

The other buy option on the right side of the page is for $24.95, Ships from and sold by VPREGGAE. Description in my cart says "Legend - 30th Anniversary Edition [CD/Blu-Ray Audio Combo] by Bob Marley Audio CD"

I think the cheap price only gets you a CD... I hope you get what you want

I just looked at the link I posted. It does say "CD" but that happens with a lot of Amazon listings. As I posted earlier the pictures show it is the 30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition. The picture of the back of the case shows the track listings for the CD and Blu-ray. The other picture shows two discs one is a CD and the other is a Blu-ray. I don't know what to tell you but it's the CD/Blu-ray set. I have the set already so there is no need to order it again.

I checked it on my 203 as well as the Cambridge Audio CXU which is pretty much a OPPO 103D. It worked perfectly on the 203. I did get one instance on the CXU. The cursor disappeared in the main menu when I pressed Song List but only the first time I did it. After I ejected it it worked fine every other time I tried it.
It might need a FW update on these older players which probably won’t happen. IIRC, OPPO said as much.

If you’re having problems with more than one disc, it’s probably time to check the usual suspects. Clear Persistent Storage, which usually gets gummed up by BD-A discs. A player reset or checking the HDMI connections may also help.
