Also, I’m old apparently. 😉
My memories are a little different. Scamming the RCA and Columbia mail order companies, first LPs then CDs. (I always bought the ones you were obligated to, but I would cancel after that, usually had multiple accounts running.) Full price on Compact Discs when they came out is more than it is now!
I mostly bought greatest hits albums, tbh, but there were regular albums I bought back then, too, but always waited until I could get them on sale later. Poor and cheap.
ETA: As I recall, cds were full price, no discount at all the first few years. I didn't get into them until Technics introduced a relatively inexpensive, fast loading(!) CD player a few years later. Then I replaced that with a Sony CD changer. I used BMG/Columbia House to replace all my LPs. Not sure who ripped off who there.
Sortof got into SACD/DVD-A, but not really, lost interest for about a decade until I replaced my system 3-4 years ago, some parts twice(
), and was glad I had bought all those SACD/DVD-A as with my current system, I really enjoy both stereo and multi channel music.
Almost everything is ripped now, and am loving it.
