Also, I’m old apparently. 😉
My memories are a little different. Scamming the RCA and Columbia mail order companies, first LPs then CDs. (I always bought the ones you were obligated to, but I would cancel after that, usually had multiple accounts running.) Full price on Compact Discs when they came out is more than it is now!
I mostly bought greatest hits albums, tbh, but there were regular albums I bought back then, too, but always waited until I could get them on sale later. Poor and cheap.

ETA: As I recall, cds were full price, no discount at all the first few years. I didn't get into them until Technics introduced a relatively inexpensive, fast loading(!) CD player a few years later. Then I replaced that with a Sony CD changer. I used BMG/Columbia House to replace all my LPs. Not sure who ripped off who there. Sortof got into SACD/DVD-A, but not really, lost interest for about a decade until I replaced my system 3-4 years ago, some parts twice(), and was glad I had bought all those SACD/DVD-A as with my current system, I really enjoy both stereo and multi channel music. Almost everything is ripped now, and am loving it.

I've had the DVD-A version since it was released. "Highway Star" has to be one of the greatest songs ever to really crank the V!

This band put on a great show I thought (this one is from Toronto). Outside of their hits, I liked more of their songs than I thought I would. Sound is 'concert' good, with an Atmos option if you're capable and a DTS-HD 5.1 mix. I'm only 7.2 capable, but the low end on the Atmos mix was head and shoulders above the DTS when I compared. Mostly front heavy, but songs like Radioactive get the surrounds jumping nicely for a concert. No qualms really about the video, it's dark essentially but not a lot of raised black levels upscaling to the OLED. I have 170 or so BD concerts and this is one of the good ones.

LOL. I guess I pushed that too far. They must have put me on their ignore list and stopped dealing with me after a while.

Yup, pretty sure that Japanese release is the one I got last year, but I think I paid a little more for it. I think I got it direct from Japan, don't remember for sure anymore. Definitely the best copy of Smoke on the Water I've heard. All my older ones had the intro guitar fading in and out.

My older brother had a good job and lots of disposable income in the early 70s. Every weekend, we would drive down to the Wherehouse and he would buy every album on the "what's new" rack and we would take them home and listen to them on his McIntosh system. I distinctly remember when he bought the first Black Sabbath album.

There were 10 available when I saw the listing. I ordered 1 which put it at 9 available. Just checked and I see it is now down to 2 and the price is up to $33.47, an increase of $3.61...

Great album! Never heard them (familiar with the name only) until I listened to them on youtube to see if I wanted to get it. Bought it from import cds I think, from ebay.

Yep, I got that one a month ago from Discogs I think. A bit more expensive than Heavier Things but much cheaper than the SACD version. Haven't listened to it yet but I'm not exactly a John Mayer fan...

A bit cheesy 70s/80s rock but I have both also and like the 5.1 mixes. And I love that they're blu-ray and not DVD.

My disc is too old (15+ years old) the paint started to peel off (see attached). I was able to rip it into 192/24 FLAC (2ch and multi-ch) before it got worse. Nowadays I just listen to my ripped DVD-Audio discs via Sony UBP-X1000ES to preserve the physical discs.

Yup, one of the things that got me into multi channel was the ability to rip it all to files. I have a home brew HTPC, and I use Jriver for multichannel, and MediaMonkey for stereo. I often read things on my tv screen when listening to music, plus I like the convenience of listening to what I want when I want. My old setup just didn't sound as good with surround sound music, so I never got into it when I bought the stuff. When I upgraded my system(mostly done now) about 3 years ago, I tried multi channel music again, loved it, and by accident found how to rip it, and the rest as they say, is history.
