You are correct in that the Fleetwood Mac S/T 5.1 mix only offers Dolby Digital audio. I haven't seen any explanation for the reason why DTS was not an option. I was disappointed as well knowing this but bought the deluxe box set anyhow. The SQ and mix are fine and well worth buying IMO. It's a shame that all of the Fleetwood Mac box sets do not have Blu-ray or DVD-A in hi-res. But like with Jethro Tull deluxe sets that also only offer DVDs it's better than no 5.1 mixes at all in any disc format.

I just checked Amazon and the Fleetwood Mac deluxe box set is available for about $55 shipped. Not a bad deal.

Not that I'm a Golden Ear, but I have found all of the Fleetwood Mac 5.1 mixes that I've heard to sound excellent.
Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, Tusk and Mirage.

Rumours is available in Hi Rez DVD-A(which I have. one of the ones I got when it came out), and there is a copy available on ebay right now at a reasonable price.

While I have found a few rarity/gems on the 'Bay & AMAZ, the majority of my brand-new SACD buys have been from AcousticSounds.

AMAZ, in particular, can be annoying as hell:

Inaccurate listings, incomplete shipment, fraudulent sellers, all run into there during a 7 month attempt to acquire the TELARC SACD of "Mahler's 2nd Symphony (Resurrection)."

That included one shipment in standard CD format, TWO shipments of the same single disc (it's a two disc recording) from some idiot in Las Vegas who also never verified what she was selling.

And even worse failed to recognize my address/shipping info as THE VERY SAME one to which she'd shipped it less than 10 days earlier!

Finally DID get it, through AMAZ, from Germany.

And at significantly less than the $100 stateside sellers were asking.

Create an account and build your 'wish list' first, thereafter...

Keep an eye out for their periodic sales or, better yet, sign-up for 'notifications' from them.

Took a dive into the available catalog during the 4th of July sale at 15% off, then...

A few days later a VERY SHORT TERM sale came up at 20% off!!

(Be it noted, the end-of-year 'Holiday Sale' tends to last for awhile.)

That is how I have felt on Amazon. It's hard to tell if your looking at an sacd or not. Especially once you start going through specific listings.

Good idea on creating a wish list. I'll get that going.

It was only in DD 5.1. It makes absolutely no difference to the sound quality. DD is capable of sounding great. You can't judge sound quality by numbers.

A: Sounds great, as well, and I'm not particularly an Alice in Chains fan.
B: For Amazon, one way is to do a google search for so and so SACD, and there should be a link to the right listing on Amazon in the google search results. Usually, it will say SACD in the title. Read the description, if there is one. It will generally cost more then a standard CD. So far, I've only been screwed once, by a seller that listed a CD as a DVD-A.
Also, just searching for SACD should bring up thousands of SACD. Many, maybe most, will show up as CD on the search results, but if you click through, you'll see SACD appended to the title.

https://www.amazon.com/Dire-Straits-...s=music&sr=1-6
Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms is a top notch SACD still available at a good price.

I have not thank you.

As for Amazon I have found a lot of sacd. Sometimes it's hard for me to tell once I select it if it's actually sacd. But the price does usually give it away.

I have the brothers in arms album it's really good.

I have a small collection of sacds that have been ripped to Flac from when I was still using nefarious means to aquire media. (No longer doing that).

As far as playing discs im putting a few bucks aside here and there to get a player. Probably will just be the Sony X800.

Sorry for the confusion everyone. I did indeed mean DD 5.1.

As everyone has mentioned, the Fleetwood Mac box sets all contain great surround discs regardless of the format.

My favorite is still the Rumours album in SACD 5.1

Do you actually have that on SACD? I had thought it only came out on DVD-Audio, but apparently there was a Japanese only Hybrid SACD release. I can't tell if it has the 5.1 mix, or not, from what I've been able to find. The track listing does appear to include "Silver Springs" so it is that 2004 version. It is quite a bit cheaper than the DVD-A on Amazon.ca. Amazon.ca also has used copies of the DVD-A starting at about C$80.

It was in the mid thirties, so it's gone. There are several Japanese SACD of Rumours in the mid thirties, but I don't know if they are the same mix or not.

You can't really read it, but if you look at the bottom left hand corner, you can see the Stereo/Multi-channel symbol on the pictures of the Japanese SACD.

Actually, I couldn't, I did try to spot something on the images I could find, but my best squinting was to no avail. And, I couldn't find any with the back of the case. If it's got Silver Springs on it, it's almost certainly the same mix.

The Rumours 2001 DVD-A and the 2011 Japanese SACD Multichannel releases have the same mix and mastering.

The DVD-A has extra content such as the "The Making of Rumors" narrated by Lindsay Buckingham.

If you're not interested in the extra content and the SACD is cheaper, get the SACD.

FWIW, I own the DVD-A. It was one of my first DVD-A's and I bought it used from a guy on avsforum. A great listen.

"Multi-ch" and "5.1 ch" are on the bottom of the gold Obi strip just above the white WB logo on the front cover of the SACD:

"Multi-ch" is on the back cover as well:

Got my Dolby Atmos setup completed today in 5.1.4 and listened to the following:

Both recorded in Atmos, while Kick is good, Kraftwerk is excellent!

Recorded in Atmos? Didn't know that was a thing.

Very cool. I'm still rocking a modest 5.1 setup.

Cool. That one I could read, the images I had seen before weren't that high resolution. And, hadn't seen the back cover.

Still "just" 5.1 here as well. Works quite well in my room. No space to do a full blown Atmos setup. I'm sure the sound is incredible but I'm quite happy with 5.1 for now .

Fleetwood Mac - Rumors, 96/24 MLP DVD-Audio. Dammit, you guys just had to keep on talking about it. Rumours was also one of my first DVD-Audio/SACD disks and I would say it's one of the best ever produced. The mastering on both the two-channel and 5.1 is stunning, the delicate treatment of the high end is extremely enjoyable, but it is full bodied, as well, with exceptional clarity. I wasn't necessarily that impressed by a lot of the 5.1 remixes of classic albums that I was hearing at the time (some have since grown on me), but I was fully sold on this one from the beginning. Immersive, enveloping audio that allows you to hear all the elements in the mix, makes excellent use of space, and doesn't forget you have a sub-woofer. They put a lot of effort into this as a showcase of the DVD-Audio format, and it shows.

Nice. Eagerly awaiting the arrival of that Kraftwerk disk.

Yeah, 5.1 is still the standard. There are a few Atmos titles out there and much more movies than music though. I finally had the space to do it and the extra speakers already sitting around.

I did listen to a couple of discs upmixing to 5.1.4 and some sound really good (Dire Straits-BIA and DSOTM). Something to play with every once in a while.
