Found this on the flea market and was surprised by the surround content and clarity despite the venue (concert arena). It's not audiophile material and I don't even speak Spanish (most songs are not english), but thought of sharing here for those interested to explore.

R.E.M- Automatic For The People. DVD-A

Has anyone compared the BD of this to the DVD-A? IIRC, they’re 2 completely different mixes.

I have both the DVDA and the Blu Ray. You are correct in that they are two different mixes by two different individuals.

I prefer the BD (I listen in ATMOS 7.2.4). You lose a little bit of localized descritness of the DVDA. That is replaced by a more immersive, atmospheric, bubble of sound. I've gone back and forth on a few songs and when you put the DVDA in, things just get sucked in and the soundstage suddenly sounds very small.

I highly recommend it if you are ATMOS capable.

Thanks. I did read the threads over at QQ which were all over the place about to Atmos mix. They pretty much agree with what you said. Many people did say the Atmos does not downmix to 5.1 or 7.1 very well and the DVD-A is the way to go for 5.1.

I don’t have Atmos so I’ll stick with the DVD. Too bad, there was an incredible price for the deluxe box over at Amazon Italy.

My favorite Pink Floyd surround mix by far. Andy Jackson did an outstanding job on this IMO. I played it the other day and with the volume cranked (11+!) it was like being in a bubble of sound!

I agree Bill. The centre channel (and sub) are basically unused on this 5.1 mix, but I can't find fault in any of it, sounds fantastic. Helps if you like the music too

I agree too. Even though I only have the DVD, the lossy compressed DTS audio stream sounds excellent.

Out of interest... Does anybody why there's a rowing boat on the cardboard DVD cover sleeve and not the usual two heads?

I have The Division Bell DVD as well and never noticed that the graphic was a rowing scull. Thanks for pointing that out! I have no idea why it's on the cover of the DVD sleeve. I just looked at the Discogs listing for The Division Bell 20th Anniversary box set. If you click on "more images" at the upper right hand there is a picture of the entire box set and it's contents. You'll see there is what looks like a postcard with the image of the rowing scull. I'm too lazy to dig out my box set .

https://www.discogs.com/Pink-Floyd-T...elease/6229448

The SQ differences between the DVD and the Blu-ray are subtle IMO. The differences are that the Blu-ray has a bit better separation and resolution. The new Pink Floyd Later Years box set will feature a Blu-ray of The Division Bell. If that release will be like the Early Years box set then there should be a stand alone book set of The Division Bell.

Oh yeah. There it is:

So the Blu-ray audio disc offers 5.1 PCM and 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio... I'd be interested to compare the 'core' DTS audio stream extracted from the DTS-HD MA stream with the DVD's DTS audio stream.

Big Phat Band - Swingin’ For The Fences on DVD-A in 5.1. I was just grabbing the picture of this off of Amazon and noticed the DVD-A for $6.99 if I was reading that right. It’s Silverline but sounds great 👍

One thing about liking multi channel music, but having a very limited catalog, is that it opens my mind to music I wouldn't necessarily be interested in other wise. I've ordered it from ebay for a similar price, and am streaming it on Amazon to see what I bought! Sounds good so far. While not a jazz aficionado, I have always enjoyed Big Band, even though I don't know much about it.

The last of "The Planets" I have bought recently, and am done buying them. Of the two organ versions, this is better. Not too surprising, it's a much newer recording, and also in surround. My favorite orchestral version is still the Chandos version I've posted before.

Certainly not for everybody's taste but I enjoy it. Got it mainly for the Atmos tracks on disc 2 as the other disc is a live concert.

Just got this copy today, awesome. I've listened to a number of mixes over the years but I've very impressed by the smoothness and clearity of the vocals. A tip of the hat to Chuck Ainlay for the 5.1 production.

I have one, the Mark Chestnut - Your Room recording, I'm a country music fan and also one of Mark Chestnut.
The BluRays he sells are excellent, true HiRez recordings captured at 24/96 or better and burned that way onto the disc. Each one offers a few different versions, Stereo, Multich Audience, and Multich Stage perspectives. Some also have a binaural track on them also.
Highly recommended. IMO

Thanks for the recommendation. I don't have any of his music but recall enjoying what I heard of him on KRTY.
