Ian Anderson- TAAB2 DVD

Another quality Steven Wilson mix.

I'm not a huge jazz fan either (I don't consider big band as jazz though), but you have to try some of Miles Davis' quad SACDs... it's awesome and again, not really a jazz fan!

dvd audio- recommended.

I played this last night. It's a mess. It's un-mastered, not remastered. Every song sounds different and the DTS is different than the Dolby (Dolby sounds a little better). If someone gave me two or three days in a mastering studio, I could make this sound great, but as it is, it's very difficult to listen to without reaching for the remote to adjust constantly. It's a shame, because the first three ELO albums are my favorites.

Huge Tull fan here but guess I'll have to stick with the Live in Iceland for my TAAB surround mixes right now.

Just played Mando Diao - Aelita Blu-Ray Audio.
Not well known by most but a great sounding album, IMO. Features a very nice surround mix.
Audio shines in DTS-HDMA 24/96 5.1 or AURO-3D 9.1

Yeah, the prices for TAAB1 are about the same as a car payment. OTOH, TAAB2 starts @ $10 on Discogs. Well worth it for the SW mix alone.

Gene Clark - No Other (2019) Blu-Ray from Deluxe Box Set
Sounds very nice. Solid mix and overall production. Neil did a great job on this.
I just wish the box set wasn't so expensive. More people might be inclined to get it if it was more affordable.

The only differentiation any of the four SACD players I've had have made on playing tracks from the "Multi-Channel Area" is between .0 and .1. I've pretty much always assumed it was part of the standard. If you put your ear to a speaker that shouldn't be used in a mix (like either surround on a 3.0 mix) there will be nothing there, but the display always shows 5.something.

I'm listening again now to the Act Your Age album tonight and it's encouraged me to make additional comments on not only the AYA release but to include all 4 of the Big Phat Band's 5.1 surround albums. Personally I don't think I've heard any surround production that exceed what Gordon Goodwin's creations offer in an enjoyable multichannel listening experience. I'm sure we can find some various details to criticize but I've listened to nothing that produces a sound-field in at least a 300 degree wrap any better than these 4 recordings. At my listening chair instruments surround me from points just slightly to the rear of the rear speaker and wrapping completely around the room to the rear speaker on the other side. Many instruments produce a solidly focused image all along each side wall and across the front of the room. I know many stereo purists would condemn this type of mix in contrast to using the surround channels only to produce room ambience, etc. YMMV but personally I find this a very acceptable alternative to the traditional lively concert-hall presentation.
Bring it on sound engineers. Just my 2 cents.

Primus - Sailing the Seas of Cheese, 5.1 48/24 LPCM. Thanks andwhatnot for the inspiration. Nice mix, crystal clear, a little compressed, but sweet, weird, pounding tunes.

How’s the mix? I was thinking of grabbing this while ImportCDs is having their 10% off sale.

The mix is plenty discrete with different musical elements portrayed around the room. Perhaps overall the mix could have been a bit more adventurous as sometimes things seem a little bit anchored in the surround field.

The music is great and the box set as well, as is the other Marillion sets.

Superlatives in all areas, great multich mix with very active surrounds.

Thanks. I’ve got all the Marillion sets, but Clutching at Straws was a fairly mediocre mix, imo. Needs Mr. Wilsons’ touch.

Unfortunately, the sale ended yesterday. I’ll keep my eyes open for a better price.

Amazon UK had the lowest price I could find.
