I've had the Real Live Roadrunning disc for years and it plays on an Oppo 83, 105, & 203 without issue.

Is the importCD release different from the one on Discogs? Mine is catalog # 44417-2, region code 1.

I reject your reality and substitute my own.

I believe they got this version: https://www.discogs.com/Mark-Knopfle...elease/2896878 which someone notated on Discogs is Region 2-6.

REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.

If you need help with the Superdisc, PM me.
Just to be clear, the Superdisc only works with DVD's and not Blu Ray's? I have a Metallica Blu Ray I can't play because of region codes.

kokison,

Actually it's a region issue as Matt mentioned and not an NTSC issue. I tried the DVD in my 103 and 205 with the same incorrect region warning. Will that Superdisc work with the 103? As always thank you for your help !

This is the version I got from Grooves Inc. https://www.discogs.com/Mark-Knopfle...elease/2896878

Hi Bill,

Okay, I cleared Persistent Memory just to make sure nothing was left over from my first attempt to play the DVD. I also unplugged it, held in the power button 10 seconds, left it unplugged for over an hour while I talked to my son. I got off the phone, plugged in the OPPO, popped in the SuperDisc I got at the URL above provided by @kokishin on the OPPO site. I'm on a Windows 7 computer which automatically opened a disc burning utility. No visual indication, just a blank screen for a second or two and out came the disc. Put the DVD in and BINGO! It works.

Okay I'm off to watch/listen to the "concert",

Thanks again kokishin

When you get a region warning, you have to start the disc again and just before it starts hit stop. That will make it so it won't just jump straight back to the warning screen. Then take the disc out, change your region and start it again and it will work. This way is a lot better than clearing your memory and having to set the region again for every out of region disc you own.

Huh? Where in the menu for Oppo players is the "change your region" setting?

Ya got me Bill. I did as noted, didn't select any region. After loading the SuperDisc, (~2 seconds) the REAL★LIVE ROADRUNNING DVD played just fine. A bit later I popped in Judge Dredd DVD and it worked as usual. I may try a couple more later and verify the "REAL★LIVE ROADRUNNING " disc still plays.

Using a mod kit to get all region Blu-ray playback may require setting the region code.

There isn't one. After installing the Superdisc software, when playing DVD's with different regions, they just play! (Shame it's not the same for region coded Blu-ray discs).

Sufficed to say... Your TV will need to support both NTSC [60Hz] and PAL [50Hz] in order to view the images from all six of the main DVD regions

SMD,

Thanks! I really wonder why some here post suggestions that have absolutely no validity . My plasma is just NTSC so I'll give the Superdisc a shot.

I just fired up the OPPO, put in the "REAL★LIVE ROADRUNNING " disc and it started right up. Then tried Donald Fagen's Kamakiriad DVDA, no problem; The Treasure of the Sierra Madre DVD, no problem and lastly 2001 Blu-ray (since I hadn't played one yet) and it worked.

As I'm in the UK I'm in DVD region 2. But I have DVD's from regions 1 to 5 (and one from region 8). And they all load and play automatically with the BDP-103 and UDP-203...

That being said... I can't remember the last time I actually watched a movie (all the way through) on DVD

Nah, the Oppo's will convert PAL to NTSC.

My 2006 Pany Plasma does not support 50Hz and works fine playing a PAL disc.

Oppo's disc players are amazing machines for all the capabilities they offer.

That may well be the case... But such PAL to NTSC (and vice-versa) conversions can effect the colours of the image.

Never noticed and not particularly concerned because the Oppo's do a stellar job in general; at least to my satisfaction.

My Oppo is region free. I can switch regions. It remembers the last point played in a disc. If that is the region warning screen, it defaults back to that every time you play it and gets stuck in the wrong region. In order to get it to reset, you have to hit stop just as it is starting up. That clears the default and lets you switch region, without having to entirely clear your cache. It is a royal pain to clear the cache because the player defaults to the last played point on every disc you've played, so even if your player is set for the wrong region, it will jump to the last place played and remember the region code. If you clear the cache it forgets all that and you have to switch regions manually all over again.

I’ve been enjoying this for some time as you can see from my copy of this fantastic concert. Maybe it is time for an upgrade.

So I have listened to this 1812 Overture a hundred times on my old Klipsch RF-7's, RC & RS 7's with my old SVS 20-39PC+ Sub and thought it sounded pretty good. I just ran it through the new Klipsch Forte 3's, in ceiling CDT 5850's, B&K Sounds CSC1 center and dual SVS SB3000's.... I thought I sharted when the cannons fired. Never. Not a single time in my life have I experienced that before. I had my eyes closed and was enjoying the music knowing the cannons were about to fire, I had my system louder than I normally listen, and it scared me so much I jumped and turned the volume down. WOW, what a major sound improvement on this disk. Good night nurse, it was incredible. I don't know if it is because it is more of a mid-range tone and since the Forte's have that advantage over the RF's or what it was, but I was blown away. Anyway, I just wanted to share. Have a great day.

You wouldn't want to play the Mercury Living Presence 1812 at a very loud volume. It has a massive spike on the cannon shots that would pop your woofers. My dog hates that version.

Memories... Back in the mid 80's I had "The Receiver" by Carver and was listening to the 1812 a bit too loudly and when the cannon fired it did blow out one of the woofers in one of my ADS L1290 speakers

I ran a search for that version, looks like it is only in Vynal, does that sound right? Sad if so, I have no turntable or place for one.
