Genesis-We Can't Dance SACDm[on my system the loudness isn't so bad as long as I turn down the volume a notch or 2]

The best way to listen to music is in 5.1 imho.

Last night I listened to the new pREServed Edition of The Residents' Third Reich and Roll and I was blown away to find that a big chunk of the album appears to be mixed in matrixed surround. I normally listen to stereo through my Yamaha Stereo to 7.1 DSP and it does a nice job of filling the room, but with this album I started hearing elements thrown to rear left and rear right that weren't in the mains. And vocals often came through the center channel loud and clear separate from the rest of the mix. I'm going to go back sometime and try some of the Dolby and DTS decoders. Maybe one of them nails the decoding better than the Yamaha DSP. Are there any other albums that are clearly matrixed surround but the CD doesn't say anything about it on the cover? I've found lots of TV shows like that on DVD.

Genesis - Selling England By The Pound SACD
Genesis - Wind And Wuthering SACD

The 5.1 mixes are somewhat loud and bright but the mixes are quite immersive. Mr. Wilson, Genesis calling on line 1 (one can only hope) .

Agreed - both albums are quite enjoyable in surround with occasional cringe worthy moments (that don't always fit the mood of the music IMO). They are what they are I guess - and there is always the vinyl to fall back on (for many of us I imagine...). I'd rather Steve move on to some new stuff rather then revisit Genesis at this point...but thats just my take (certainly wouldn't complain)....though at some point how many versions of the same music are we willing to spring for?

I'b buy all 5 boxes again if SW did them. Genesis is one of my favorite bands. But then again, I'm a bit crazy.

Probably will never happen. Tony Banks has publicly defended them, leading me to believe he sat too close to the monitors when the band was on stage.
SW has also said he doesn't like Genesis. A bit strange since he's doing the Marillion catalog. Fish sounds like he learned how to sing by imitating Peter Gabriel.

Good choice! The Give Me Strength box set is worth every penny! Elliot Scheiner's 5.1 mix for 461 Ocean Blvd is great as it's better than the SACD 5.1 mix. With that the original quad mixes of 461 Ocean Blvd and There’s One In Every Crowd as well. Outstanding set !

Wow, this post got me started down a deep, dark rabbit hole.. First, I’m really wanting more multichannel music that I’d love to hear on my 5.2.4 HT system and secondly, I’m a big fan of PM & Wings. The buying options now are quite limited (rare) and quite expensive. Now it’s not enough to pull the trigger and add this to my collection; I have to have the yellow label or forget it!

Chicago - Chicago Blu-ray 4.0 quad
Pink Floyd - DSOTM Blu-ray 4.0 quad
Pink Floyd - WYWH Blu-ray 4.0 quad
Pink Floyd - Division Bell Blu-ray 5.1

I much prefer the quad mixes of DSOTM and WYWH over the 5.1 mixes. A surround mix of Animals is long overdue!

What's better in my opinion is the 4.0 quad mixes compared to the 5.1 mixes of both DSOTM and WYWH. The SACDs do not have the 4.0 quad mixes only the 5.1 mixes. So it's more about a mix preference than a disc format preference. I've never done a direct comparison between the SACD and Blu-ray 5.1 mixes but they should sound pretty much the same. The same 5.1 mixes are used for both disc formats.

I think you misunderstood me. The SACD and Blu-ray use the same 5.1 mixes. The 4.0 quad mixes are totally different and offer a very different surround experience. Well worth getting if you can find the Blu-rays separately or grab the Immersion sets.
