Need multi channel player, with analog outs

I have an older Sony Bluray (cheap one) and a very old NAD CD player. The CD player is working unreliably, it probably needs to be cleaned. The Sony takes forever to start, sometimes 2+ minutes.

I recently upgraded my speakers to some pretty high end stuff, and would like to enjoy some 5.1 music. My receiver is an older NAD (T754) with no HDMI in. It does have SPDIF both optical and coax, but I know SACD doesn't allow digital transmission over SPDIF. I also have 7.1 analog inputs. My system is 5.1.

So I'm thinking about replacing both the BR and the CD players with a single unit. I will run analog out to the receiver (and SPDIF for DVDs with DD/DTS).

Currently I'm looking at the Oppo UHD-203. It checks all the boxes, is about what I want to spend, and looks pretty well regarded. It would also allow me to play back lossless audio formats on newer Blurays through the analog connection, although really I'm more interested in the 5.1 music in either Bluray or SACD format.

Any other machines I should look at?

Thanks!

Yeah I looked in there. I think the analog out requirements put me out of the $100-$150 player range though, as I understand it those only do SACD over HDMI (and I don't have an HDMI input on my receiver...)

In addition, I'm looking to buy new. I want to make sure I'm future proof as much as possible, and anticipate upgrading my projector eventually to 4K

If you want a new player with analogue outputs then yes, your choices are pretty limited...

I can recommend your first choice (the Oppo UDP-203) as I primarily use its analogue outputs for listening to music. And it's most impressive

Well I used to use (and still have lying around) a Samsung HD841 multi-channel player. It can play DVD Video/Audio and SACD. Output was 6-channel analogue only but there was a DVI output which I suspect was video only, not audio.

I was toying with the idea of putting it back into my family room system where I can only SACD via Sony BD player but the thought of plumbing 6 cables for audio has put me off :-(. If I want to play DVD-A I go to my main room and use an Oppo.

There’s a lot less choices over the last year for new players with Denon/Marantz and Pioneer seemingly dropping out of the market. Panasonic players don’t play SACD’s and Sony seems to be doing an idiot dance with the stereo analog only x1000es. I would avoid LG and Samsung like the plague.
Since you already are leaning towards the OPPO, get it. The best customer service in the industry, constant FW upgrades, a superb remote and a solid player that should last for years. If it breaks after the warranty expires, OPPO has a $79 flat repair fee to fix it. In fact, sometimes they’ll even do it for just the price of shipping. It happened to me with my 103D.
Finally, there’s a rabid OPPO fan base at AVS that should help you with any questions.

The fact so many pros and enthusiasts at AVS swear by OPPO should tell you all you need to know.

Excellent choice on the Oppo 203. Looking at the size of that music shopping spree I'd say you're hooked . Enjoy!

I only just saw this thread.

I would have suggested getting an Oppo 103 and a good AVR with HDMI to drive your new high end speakers - lossless BDA, SACD, DVDA for audio only and DTS-HDMA and Dolby TrueHD for movies and audio only. (And room correction/EQ).

The 103 could have been used to rip SACDs to multichannel FLAC or DSF in the future when you realise the benefits of file playback. (A PC with a blu-ray drive can convert everything else to multichannel FLAC.
