DVD-A (DVD Audio)... what's out there? <List of Titles>

Always been a SACD kind of guy for whatever reason, and never bought any DVD-A since I've been collecting SACDs, circa 2007. Bought a few blu-ray audios and my first DVD-A last year (Grateful Dead's two DVD-A titles), but not terribly impressed (probably because the material... as GD is really a live band, but anyhow...). However, just bought the Crowded House DVD-A this week and got it today and I was just blown away. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but I really liked the 5.1 mix. Good instrument/vocal separation, no vocals from the surrounds (I HATE THAT), etc. Just sounds good.

I know that there are a good number of albums only on DVD-A and not SACD (or blu-ray audio), like Crowded House and Grateful Dead, and wondering how to find a database or list of DVD-A out there. I have always used sa-cd.net but inexplicably they don't catalog DVD-A. I've googled and found that some bands I like (Talking Heads, REM, Queen) have had DVD-A (only care about surround/multichannel) but would appreciate some help in finding out DVD-A titles (although not titles that are also available on SACD/blu-ray). Interested in all genres except classical.

Thanks!

LIST OF DVD-A TITLES:

Note:

- Asterisk (*) denotes a DVD-V that primarily has audio (compressed multichannel like Dolby Digital +/- high rez stereo) content and for which there is no DVD-A version available.
- Pound/hash (#) denotes a DVD-A (or DVD-V) that was only released as part of a box set.

Try these:

https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/dvdalist.htm

Or the HiRes Poll, add a search/filter of: [D] to filter only DVDA releases
https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/TabbedPollChart.htm

The Beatles Love is still available I think and worth a listen.

I know the OP excluded Classical from his Genre list, but I have only one DVD-Audio, which is Verdi's Requiem, conducted by Valery Gergiev and recorded by Phillips in 2001. The funny thing is that when I look through all the databases, and on Google, I cannot find this product. I can find LPs and CDs of this specific performance, but no mention of the DVD-A (or any high-resolution disc). I also can't find it on HDtracks, Acoustic Sounds, etc. Any suggestions of other places to find it listed?

One of my favorite multichannel albums (and it rarely gets mentioned) is Lee Ritenour's Six String Theory. It's all star jams in spectacular surround sound.

Interview + only TROUBLE Music Video), LeAnn Rimes GREATEST HITS (incl. 4 Music Videos), Tori Amos BEEKEEPER (incl. 8 Music Videos), No Doubt BOOM BOX (incl. 16 Music Videos), Alicia Keys THE DIARY OF (incl. Bonus DVD w Diary & Concert Footage), Alicia Keys UNPLUGGED (incl. Concert DVD + Music Video), Alicia Keys AS I AM Limtd. Ed. (incl 4 Music Videos, etc), Josh Groban CLOSER (incl. "The Making of" DVD), Rihanna GOOD GIRL GONE BAD (incl 5 Music Videos + Interview), Lenny Kravitz LIVE (Surround Concert Video), David Gilmour LIVE AND IN SESSION Limtd. Ed. (Concert DVD), Peter Frampton FINGERPRINTS (2 Track DVD), Jewel THE MAKING OF GOODBYE ALICE IN WONDERLAND (2 Making of Videos + Music Video), Katie Malua PIECE BY PIECE Limtd. Ed. (4 Music Videos + Tour Overview), Introducing Joss Stone Dlx. Ed. (1 Music Video + Behind the Scenes), Joss Stone MIND BODY SOUL Spec. Ed. (5 Music Videos), Norah Jones NOT TOO LATE Dlx Ed (3 Music Videos + Interviews), and Carrie Underwood CARNIVAL RIDE Limtd. Ed. (4 Music Videos + Interviews) and TaTu THE BEST (incl. 20-min Concert Footage, 22 Music Videos, etc.) and The Who ENDLESSWIRE Spec. Limtd. Ed. (with LIVE AT LYON Concert DVD).

Just a few of my DVD Videos that are packaged so they just LOOK like they contain a CD: Pink DVD Single (3 Music Videos + Family Portrait), Faith Hill (Concert DVD), and Fujitsu Ten Eclipse DRIVING MUSIC 2008 (7 Music Videos related to driving a CAR fm Maroon5, Rihanna, Bon Jovi, Nicole Scherzinger, All American Rejects, Ne Yu & Common....NOT for Sale so try eBay).

BTW: There are LOTS of different CD/DVD Releases....to find out which ones are what YOU want, be sure to check out Alternative Releases listed on DISCOGS....also contains detail track list and what is on the DVD:

Thanks! So lucky also! I got a lot of SACDs before they went OOP but I always resisted getting DVD-A -- mostly because I didn't want to open up pandora's box and have to go nuts and spent way too much money collecting those titles too... Anyway, fast forward a decade or more and now I'm happy when I find a new/sealed DVD-A for under $60 :-/

Thanks! I was going to stop the list since there are places like discog and so forth, but I'll keep adding them since it's nice to have a list of titles that other posters here have in their collections.

Many good suggestions for DVD-As posted! Also many good links posted with detailed listings of DVD-As. I have quite a few DVD-As but my all time favorite is Mark Knopfler's Sailing To Philadelphia. It's OOP now but back in the day it was on Amazon for $11.95.

Other favorites would be...

Eagles - Hotel California
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
Steely Dan - Everything Must Go and Two Against Nature
Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun and Stupid Dream
Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La
Donald Fagen - Nightfly, Kamakiriad and Morph the Cat
David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name
Yes - the Steven Wilson 5.1 mixes
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms (Dual Disc)
Graham Nash - Songs For Beginners and Songs For Survivors

I don't know what got into me but I spent a couple hours going through the entire 824 albums that populate in Discogs when filtered for "multichannel" and "DVD-A". I skipped all classical, almost all jazz (made an exception for Miles Davis), and nearly all the obscure albums by obscure bands. Let me know if there's anything not on the list (only multichannel though).

Here are two more 5.1 DVD-A's for your OP. Unfortunately, they are part of box sets.

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk Deluxe Limited Edition Correction: Surround DVD-V.

Fleetwood Mac - Mirage Deluxe Limited Edition Correction: Surround DVD-V.

Edit Add:

To my best knowledge, there are no legal versions of DSOTM or WYWH on DVD-A. The Immersion box sets have DVD-V's.

Thanks, added. I put the Pink Floyd DVDs on the list because I think they are DVD-A/DVD-V combos like many DVD-A, but I could be wrong.

I don't know the specs for DVD-V vs DVD-A for audio parameters, but would be interested to know if it is clear based just on what is available on the DVD. I found a review online that says it is a DVD-A but of course he could be wrong too.

Anyone know for certain if the MC DVD in the Immersion box set is a DVD-A or DVD-V? Unfortunately, my used box set I got on ebay didn't even have it as the seller supposedly didn't realize it was missing. I kept it anyway since the price was quite low (~$50).

Thanks, will have to look into those as well. Shame that DVDs with primarily audio were made as DVD-V and not DVD-A. Seems bizarre.
