NEED HELP!! Cannot change surround mode

Hi guys, I have a marantz sr7009 receiver. I usually watch my 4k movies through my Sony ubpx800 and have my marantz decode the audio. I set it to auto and the majority of my content it defaults to DTSHD-MA. Here's the kicker, I recently did an audyssey calibration again and I watched a few clips of movies. It sounds way better. I thought this was due to me taking all 8 measurements instead of 3. I look down at the receiver and notice it's now displaying DTSHD + PLIIx Movie. I didn't change any settings and so I just pressed auto and it went back to DTSHD-MA. However, now it sounds worse!!! I couldn't believe it considering it's lossless. I tried everything to get back to DTSHD+PLIIX Movie but I just can't get it to work? What am I doing wrong?

You may need to refer to the user manual. You could try posting in one of the subforums to see if anyone is familiar with that specific receiver.

I consulted the manual. No help. This is a very unusual problem (not really a problem) but a glitch rather that was for my benefit lol. Cause i really enjoyed it while it was on DTS-HD + PLIIx rather than DTS HD MSTR

Is it a 2 channel source, not multichannel? The only way to get PLII to be an option is with a stereo source.

My processor gives me alternate format options. For instance I can option for PLII-Music for all programs broadcast in Stereo, or option for ALL STEREO when the original format is DOLBY 2CH. I think sworth has it right. Your receiver is telling you it's set to DTS-HD, but is playing PLII-x because the program is broadcast in Stereo. PLIIx must be your surround default for a broadcast stereo signal.

If it's like the similar Denon models, click on the "movie" or "music" remote buttons just above the number keys. The current format will show up on your screen or display, then hit the up or down arrows to change to your liking.

PLIIx upconverts to 7.1 any content with less than 7.1 channels (5.1/2.0). For 5.1 content, it will matrix the surround channels into the rear channels. On my system, it doesn't sound that much different, but there is a difference.

Spidacat is correct on how to change the surround modes.

If you have further questions, there is a dedicated thread for your receiver.
