Ripping SACD?

Is this still super difficult? I am considering a universal player like a Sony BD player, but would still like to add discs I buy to my Jriver library. I have a PS3 but assume the FW is too new and I think it is the last model that they made.

I think the later PS3 models don't even support SACD playback. There are some other players that can do it though, including the Oppo BDP-103, if you have one. I haven't tried it myself yet but would like to do it at some point.

Thanks for the info. Might be better just to use the disc and leave it alone.

Or maybe it is an excuse to get an Oppo.

Last I heard it was still only the old model PS3's that could intercept the stream properly to rip it. But it's not something I've looked into for a while. With all the high-res audio out there these days, I don't think there's a ton of interest in SACD ripping.

Oppos, BDP-103/105/103D/105D can rip any SACD via a network connection. Its pretty simple and quick. All that's required is a command line script on a networked PC and a script on a USB drive on the Oppo. This gets you an ISO which can be unpacked into DSF files or burned to a DVD for playback in a player supporting SACD-R.

Thanks, I keep being pointed to Oppo. Maybe I should just forget the X800 and save a few more bucks.

I use an old Pioneer for SACD ripping. Dirt cheap in the used market.

Cheers,

Thanks man, appreciate having another option, apparently there are a number of these older sony's that can do the job.
