Kenny Wayne Shepherd - The Traveler (Blu-Ray Pure Audio)

This looks very interesting. Not really familiar with his music but anything new in surround on Blu-ray is good news! I'm in for sure !

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - The Traveler Pure Audio Blu-ray Edition

Dolby Atmos / Dolby Atmos Headphone Mix / PCM audio formats

True High-Resolution 24bit/96k audiophile sound; both 5.1 surround sound mix, stereo mix included

2019 release. The Traveler is an album of experience and profound resonance by the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band. Recorded in Los Angeles, while the band was on a break from their uncompromising tour schedule that left them road-tested and ready to rock, The Traveler showcases some world-class musicians: vocalist Noah Hunt, drummer Chris "Whipper" Layton (formerly of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble), bassist Kevin McCormick, and keyboardists Jimmy McGorman and Joe Krown. The album features 10 songs including eight new originals co-written by KWS and some of Nashville's most in-demand songwriters, plus incendiary covers of Buffalo Springfield's "Mr. Soul" and Joe Walsh's "Turn to Stone."

Features:
• High-Fidelity Pure Audio
• Audio: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 / Dolby Atmos / Dolby Atmos Headphone Mix / PCM Stereo
• Picture (Menus): 1080P / 23.98FPS / 16:9 Widescreen — The Making of The Traveler
• Plays on Blu-Ray Compatible Players ONLY!

Oh wow, that takes me back...

I saw him play at the 100 Club in London on 01 Aug 1996 (£7.50). The room was quite full of celebs who had come to see the young nineteen year old play guitar. Awesome night

Looking forward to this release and quite unexpected!

I've been a big fan of Kenny back to the mid-nineties. I would guess if one likes Stevie Ray, Johnny Winter and the like, you would like the Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band.

It is on the amazon.ca site, listed as Currently Unavailable, likely will change before the release date.
Hope this is part of the leading edge of the release of a bunch of Atmos titles.

Yep, I have .ca sending me an email if it becomes available. Don't want to miss this one though, so I'll keep my .com pre-order for now in case it doesn't show on the Canadian site.

Perhaps you've seen this already. Although there's a price, doesn't appear you can buy it yet. Maybe it will go active soon.

Too early to panic. Hasn't been released yet and it's not like it's going to sell-out in a day. There is plenty of time.

No problem, just glad you were able to find it. I had a chance to listen to the Blu-ray and I personally liked it. It is quite active surround wise with a lot of the guitar solos switching channels and ping ponging between speakers. Overall an engaging mix with some impressive guitar work. I'm glad I bought the album.

The Traveler Blu-ray arrived today from Bull Moose. I have to say that it's not what I expected. Thought Kenny Wayne Shepherd was a blues guy but one track is more country than blues. Not a fan of country music. Got as far as Mr. Soul and hit the eject button. Sorry but he's no Neil Young.

This album is the first music of KWJ in my collection and I'm not overly impressed with his guitar playing. It's good but not overly remarkable. The surround mix is average at best IMO. Maybe another listen in the near future might give a better impression.

Sorry to hear Bill that you didn't like the album. Maybe try to give it another spin later and play some of the other tracks as well. I will say that this is not what I'd call a Blues album either. I would call this more Rock than Blues with some Country added as well. The Atmos mix I found did another layer of sound which gives it some more depth, but it's definitely not a Steven Wilson mix by any means. I'm still glad I got the album even though I don't play it alot, and the price was pretty reasonable.

JJ,

It's all good! I'll give it another listen and see if it grows on me. Listening to an awesome blues surround SACD right now! Buddy Guy's "DJ Play My Blues". I forgot what a great sounding 5.1 mix this is. Awesome album too!

"Garbage Man Blues"... wow! No offense to Kenny Wayne Shepherd but Buddy is the real deal!

For context, I suggest you go back and listen to his first three albums. I'm sure they would be available streaming.

While I would also prefer a more hard-rock'n, 20 year old Kenny, the fact is, he's not 20 anymore. His last couple of albums appear to reflect a changing musical direction and taste. I'm not sure this change in musical direction warrants the subtle digs at Neil Young and Buddy Guy comparisons.

I was just stating my opinion. Not intended as "digs" or to offend anyone. Not everyone is going to have the same taste in music or enjoy the covers of other artists music.
