I wonder why they feel fit to release the same content on different disc formats. Doesn't everybody who can afford to buy these boxed-sets have a Blu-ray player now

Out of interest...

How many Pink Floyd 'studio albums' have been made available in surround sound? I currently have: -

[1973] Dark Side Of The Moon
[1975] Wish You Were Here
[1994] The Division Bell
[2014] The Endless River

As far as I can see, the only new surround sound studio album in this proposed boxed set is '[1987] A Momentary lapse Of Reason'...

Cheers

That's about it. However the Early Years set did have a hidden quad mix of Meddle I would LOVE to have. But it wasn't supposed to be officially released for whatever reason.

Even though I have most of this already the concerts and AMLOR make it worth considering.

Oh yes I remember reading about this revelation. I wonder how many people here managed to acquire this particular release?

A few over on the Hoffman forum were finding and listening to it. I'm just not enough of a fan of the Barrett era to fork out the cash for the set for Meddle. Should probably start checking to see if any of these sets are showing up used for reasonable prices.

Atom Heart Mother has a released Quad mix which is highly enjoyable. I think Meddle was post Sid era.

It is post Syd, but most of the music in that box set is Syd era material.

I personally put Meddle as the start of the golden era that ends for me with Animals. But they aren't asking me

It's a nice looking boxset but if the cost is in the $400-$500 range I'll pass. Hopefully there will be separate book sets like with the Early Days box set.

I have the initial release of the Early Years ...

So,... I have the stereo and surround versions of Meddle. One of the days surround mix sounds strange to me but I suppose it's just a different mix so that explains that. Could never really put my finger on what's "wrong" with it... Just heard the regular version so many times a different mix sounds different.

I should mention that I have EVERYTHING else that I know of about by Pink Floyd so I get a little bummed when stuff like the singles mixes get released when I have had them for several years. But it's cool... This will be good too.

PF is the closest thing I have to religion so I'll be buying it ... Though most often I'll be listening to them via Apple Music now.

I also have the initial release of the P F Early Years and have the stereo and surround versions of Meddle. I thought the surround mix sounded quite good. I would also be thrilled if there was a surround mix of Animals, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Hey Yous,

AMLOR may be my least favorite PF album.. I think it may be.

It get a little love for putting the band back to work and getting them on what was a great tour.

I didn't discover PF until after the Final Cut and I figured I missed the whole show.

Still... I am hopeful to have the entire Catalog in 5.1 and/or at least stereo 24/96 so if it's the only thing good about the set apart from the great packaging I will buy it.

I already have a Division Bell tour book which looks to be included and nice European tickets which also look to be reproduced.

I guess Animals is problematic. It isn't popular (though it's fantastic) and it remains mostly credited to Roger (which isn't fair because I think the skill of the band is showcased more then the great lyrics.)

I asked Tim Renwick if they would play anything off Animals when I met him before the start of the Division Bell tour in Miami and he said that's all Roger's.

I had the Venice show on bad VHS so that will be a bonus. Hate that Welcome to the Machine seems to have been excluded as that was certainly a very wonderful part of the tour back in the day.

5.1 of Piper at the Gates of Dawn was part of the description of the anniversary deluxe set initially and at the time Nick Mason said the entire catalog was going to be available in surround... I hope he was right.

Roger Waters may have some strategy in mind as he could have should have released it during the Wall type blitz he recently conducted.

He has a movie of his most recent tour Us and Them coming out so I hope he plans more things. Guess the problem is he can't market the old PF stuff under his name.

Cheers,
Pick up Roger's Blu Ray with Atmos. It's missing Gilmour, Wright and Mason, but Roger had mostly pushed them aside by the point the Wall was produced. Good mix and more energy than the studio dirge.

I think it may depend on when you discovered the band. AMLOR was the album out there when I was getting into music. It's certainly less than perfect, but there are definitely songs that work. If you listen to Delicate Sound of Thunder (the tour you mention) the music certainly sounds better with the traditional Floyd instrumentation vs. the 80's synth used in the studio. Definitely gets my hopes up for Wright/Mason with their traditional instruments being put into the studio tracks for this album in the set.

It's just a shame that for legal reasons they couldn't include Wright on the original studio album at the time (he was considered a hired musician on the tour). After the dust cleared from the legal battle with Roger they were able to finally bring him officially back. So having Rick back in AMLOR as he should have been from the start will be a wonderful thing.

Naw. Their music is timeless to me and most fans. Listening DSOTM or WYWH is just as meaningful today as it was when they were released. The Final Cut was essentially a Roger solo project that just had the name Pink Floyd attached. Wright was out of the picture since being fired by Roger during The Wall. Mason only did the mixing. Gilmour was hired as a session guitarist only. It still has some good tracks, but if you listen to where Roger went after this and PF prior catalog it's plain this is far more Roger than the band.

I think you'll find most fans hold Animals in high regard. My only critique of it is that it was the start of Roger really asserting himself to the detriment of the rest of the band. Gilmour and Wright were both better vocalists IMO and were mostly sidelined. Still a fantastic album both lyrically and musically and as I said above the last of my golden era of Floyd.

I don’t believe the multi tracks exist to Piper so there won’t be a true 5.1/atmos mix ever released unfortunately.

Fantastic! I was just young enough when they were touring in '88 to not be able to go. I did get to go to the Pulse tour in '94. Still my favorite concert. I was able to see David Gilmour twice in Chicago on his last tour and he was phenomenal. I wanted to see Roger Waters in Kansas City on The Wall stop but family responsibilities didn't allow for it.

Congrats on all those awesome stops and the memories they undoubtedly made.

Roger Waters Pros and Cons was the first PF related concert I went to in (I think 86) Oakland Ca.

I saw both Roger and David several times solo... Finally I was lucky enough to catch Echoes live at Radio City Music Hall on the On an Island tour. Saw RW do the full DSoTM and later The Wall tour.

More Recently I took my kids to see RW at the Newport Folk Festival and my 2 older kids to see DG at MSG on the Rattle that Lock tour.

I should be interested in this "later years" box set because that's the stuff I was somewhat present for.

To the other notion that 5.1 mixes don't exist for PatGoD ... That is likely true but it was listed as a third disc (SACD) on the original specs for the anniversary deluxe set. I assume they were going to create the 5.1 mix from existing elements. Either way the final set scrapped the idea.

Roger Waters may have some strategy in mind as he could have should have released it during the Wall type blitz he recently conducted.

He has a movie of his most recent tour Us and Them coming out so I hope he plans more things. Guess the problem is he can't market the old PF stuff under his name.

I’ll believe any surround mixes when I see them. The Wall 5.1 should have been included in the Immersion box, the 5.1 of Meddle was unofficially included in the Early Years box, then disappeared in the separate releases. Animals is still vaporware up to this point.

Supposedly this is all because the band still can’t get along after all these years.

Although I love Floyd, I can’t stomach the a-holes in the band.

Cheers,
Sounds like you passed on The Division Bell box set also.
Maybe that was just deluxe not immersion but it was about the same size weight and scope of the immersion sets.
(So did I ... but this later years box set will catch me up to some stuff I kind of already have.)

I'm not picking sides but I've yet to see David do something wrong. I saw him at Joe Robbie visiting the handicapped section and greeting people (RW does this too).. I saw him swamped with people when he came out of Radio City Music hall ... they were shoving anything they could find in his face for autographs and he was patient and polite. He almost forgot to give back a pen but then he remembered.

He must get some karmic credit for the charities that he gives millions to.

If you read up on the band and the turbulent period before the split, the main driver behind the discord was Roger. As far as the band today, I think they are in a good place. The Wall concert Blu has a lot of introspection from Roger. Through therapy and time he's come to terms with who he was then and who he is now. A lot of the back and forth on what's going on with the music has to do with various labels going under and issues with the rights. I know EMI going under has a lot do with it.

Even Dave and Roger seem cordial with one another these days. Certainly not friends, but at peace with where things are.
