Is DTS X worth it for a 7.1 setup?

As the question states, is it worth it? I used to have two height speakers, but now I’m currently stuck using 7.1 in a conventional setup. Will DTS X make good use of this setup?

The main difference with DTS:X is the addition of height speakers, which won't matter if you have a traditional 7.1 set-up.

What about Dts Virtual X? I haven't heard it or heard much about it.
