Tidal starts offering atmos content

This should integrate nicely with roon multichannel. No?

The FireTV may fit the bill, though they don’t say explicitly. Perhaps someone who has a subscription can try?
It is good to see that the topic is getting some traction.

The Shield TV could also work. Plex has a Tidal link which I already enabled but never used... for a simple reason it requires you to have the TV on to operate it. I tried to use my Note 10+ to play back Atmos files via the Shield's chromecast feature, but predictably failed and switched to "Hi-Fi" instead [2ch PCM].

It's only supported on a handful of phones and tablets. No devices that can actually handle a true Atmos home theater setup. Makes no sense to me.

Agreed, both Amazon and Tidal haven't thought this through.

Agree with your assessment. Limited to Phones and Tablets with MM size speaker(s) single or maybe double drivers. How is this ATMOS by any definition ? Smacks of pure GIMMICK to me. Same for both Tidal and Amazon Music.

It's not just you. It makes no sense, exactly because it is most certainly NOT Atmos!

I assumed this would be Tidal's attempt at Dolby Atmos via headphones?

Wow, Tidal and all streaming services are not only for phones you know ?
Android TVs like Sonys, devices like the fire stick, shield TV and others. Windows. Most AVRs also have native support for those services.
If you have a Atmos setup at home, you can take advantage of this.
Also Tidal and Qobuz offer lossless streaming too. Something that most phones DACs will suck for anyway.

windows is not android... "With your TIDAL HiFi membership and your Android device"

i have a high-end pc, built it myself, it has a dedicated hdmi link to the avr, and i've never been able to get any kind of surround sound out of the tidal web app.

i guess that i'll have to try the tidal app on the avr.

got the tidal app working on the denon x4500h/motorola e5 play.

found a dolby atmos playlist that tidal created, but it won't play at all via the smartphone, gives an unable to stream error... the avr is set up in a 5.1 speaker configuration, but i expected it to at least play back as dolby surround, like other audio sources do.

tidal app playing the dolby atmos playlist on firestick 4k, via my 65" lg c9, fails: "playing in stereo, device not capable of playing in dolby atmos"

the tidal atmos playlist appears to stream as stereo with the tidal browser app on the pc.

so basically no atmos, with anything that i tried

^^^^Yep, have also tried every device including Denon HEOS which is supposed to be supported. I have tried Apple 4kTV, Nvidia Pro Shield (2019), Amazon Cube new gen 2, Xbox one X, PS4 Pro, Direct HDMI from ASUS Gaming laptop. Nada! Best I got was forced 7.1 multi-channel from ASUS using HDMI.

Where did you see that HEOS is supposed to be supported? Tidal's website here specifically says "Android smartphones." I also recall seeing somewhere a list of exactly which phones are supported, but can't recall where I saw that.

It is for now, same goes for Sony's "Reality 360" which is strictly headphone aimed.
