Any new releases to look forward to in 2020?

I know they have threads like this on QQ but can anyone share what big releases are coming this year? I am guessing there is no word on PF's Animals or the fabled quad recordings of the Doobie Brothers, but it would be nice to have something to look forward to. Probably most will come the way of the SDE box set but that's better than nothing. Last year was exciting with the Band, Abbey Road, and some others, so hoping something good will come out this year too.

Dutton Vocalion has been carrying the mantle lately, with rumors of a new big batch in April.

Let it Be it looks like.

Also I listened to an interview with Eddie Kramer on the Beatles channel yesterday (XM) and he mentioned how much he loved mixing Electric Lady Land in 5.1 and how amazing it sounds and that he is working on more 5.1 Hendrix releases. Don’t know if that will be in 2020 however.

Steven Wilson is starting his "Future Bites" tour in September to support his new album that will be out some time before then. And I think it's safe to say that the master of surround won't disappoint us.

Tears for Fears is supposedly announcing something this week. Let’s hope it’s finally the Seeds of Love deluxe box.
IIRC, Let It Be is also due this year.

Thanks, not very familiar with this label but I checked out the website and they have a few groups I know (EW&F, BS&T) so great that they're still releasing new standalone MC SACDs.

Let It Be would be amazing!! As would more Hendrix in surround!

I must be in the tiny minority of surround fans that don't love SW mixes, but glad he's putting out new material in surround.

Seeds of Love would be AMAZING. Blu-ray please!

And yeah, Let It Be -- if anything like Abbey Road -- would be a must buy.

Anyone notice the shout out at the Oscars last night to Giles Martin by one of the sound awards winners? I think it was the 1917 sound editing winner.

I received the following from Alan Williams, the front man of Birdsong at Morning...."new music (sort of). There will be more info forthcoming, but essentially it's a re-worked version of an album I completed and then shelved back in 1995. New vocals, new mix, some arrangement tweaks. Coming out under my name, though it features many at-the-time future Birdsong folks. Will be doing the Blu-ray/CD package similar to the last two Birdsong albums. Stereo and 5.1." Hopes for a June release. I'm pumped!!

Update on Tears For Fears. They are re-releasing the deluxe boxes of The Hurting and Songs from The Big Chair. SFTBC has a 5.1, The Hurting is stereo only.

They also posted there will be additional stuff later.

Honestly, these guys are just as annoying as the idiots in Pink Floyd.

Hopefully the Pink Floyd Later years box set gets broken up in 2020 (along with Animals).

More Alan Parsons?

Marillion

Maybe Porcupine Tree releases a new album later in the year.

Renaissance- Turn Of The Cards is due later this month. If this sells well, maybe they’ll consider doing Scherazade and Other Stories.

I have probably 10 releases of Scheherazade and none of them are very good. I'd kill for a decent master.

Tell me about it. Even the AF SACD doesn’t sound very good imo. It looks like one of those albums that will never sound much better than the original vinyl.

Yeah, I reached that conclusion a couple of years back and, by way of a favor, had my pristine MoFi LP converted to digital by a well heeled friend who owns both a hi-tech mixing/mastering studio and an uber high end turntable setup.

What are your impressions of the MoFi vinyl? I didn’t think it was terrible. The guys over at Hoffman beat me into a bloody pulp when I tried praising it a few years ago.

Well, the last time I could possibly have heard Sire vs. MoFi would be earlier than 1988, as that's when I moved on from LPs. Furthermore, I can't say that I ever seriously tried to check one version vs. the other, only that I dimly remember that I regarded MoFi, the brand, to be an improvement. But, who's to know, absolutely, unless they do some valid form of blind A/B. As for the digitized MoFi I now use: It's no Redbook, dynamic range-wise, but it's more satisfying, to me, than any of the problematic CD releases.

I don't pay much attention to folks @ Hoffman. What I hear and what they claim to hear for a given release are often at odds.

Nice.

I had a pre-order through Amazon, but they’re not shipping non-essentials right now. Who knows when it will come.

I’m not complaining. There are a lot more important issues in the world than when an album shows up.

So they are just re-releasing the 2014 box set and nothing new...?

Shopping List:

Blu-ray: Panasonic UB820
AVR/Pre-pro: Marantz 8805/7705 or 8012, or Yamaha 5200 or 3080

In an interview about 3 weeks ago, Roland said The Seeds of Love Deluxe will be released this year. A lot of things have happened since then so there’s no telling what will happen now.

I was unimpressed with the Scheherazade SACD as well. Thin and brittle SQ. The good news is the Turn of The Cards 5.1 is excellent.
