The Alan Parsons Project: Ammonia Avenue Blu-Ray Audio

Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a Blu-Ray edition of the classic album AMMONIA AVENUE by THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT with a pre-order and release date of March 27, 2020

• A BLU RAY BOXED EDITION OF THE CLASSIC ALBUM BY THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT
• NEWLY REMIXED FROM THE ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES IN 5.1 SURROUND SOUND & HI RESOLUTION STEREO BY ALAN PARSONS
• ALSO INCLUDES THE PROMOTIONAL VIDEOS OF ‘DON’T ANSWER ME’ & ‘PRIME TIME’
• INCLUDES A BOOK WITH NEW ESSAY

Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a Blu-Ray edition of the classic album AMMONIA AVENUE by THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT.

First released in February 1984, AMMONIA AVENUE was the seventh album by THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT, the brainchild of composer, musician and manger ERIC WOOLFSON and celebrated producer and engineer ALAN PARSONS. The inspiration for the album title came from a visit Woolfson had made to the ICI Chemical plant in Billingham, England after meeting ICI chairman Sir John Harvey-Jones on a flight from New York. Upon visiting the plant, Eric Woolfson noticed a long street called Ammonia Avenue, devoid of people and trees and dominated by miles of pipes.

The album sessions featured the contribution of musicians such as Ian Bairnson (guitars), David Paton (bass), Stuart Elliott (drums) with Eric Woolfson playing keyboards and lead vocals on four of the album’s nine songs. Colin Blustone, Chris Rainbow and Lenny Zakatek also provided lead vocals on the remaining songs. AMMONIA AVENUE would become one of the biggest selling albums for THE ALAN PARSONS PROJECT, attaining gold status in many European countries and the USA. The album featured such classic compositions as DANCING ON A HIGHWIRE, SINCE THE LAST GOODBYE and the stunning title track. AMMONIA AVENUE also spawned the hit singles DON’T ANSWER ME (a Top Ten hit throughout Europe and in the USA) and PRIME TIME.

This Blu-Ray edition features stunning new 5.1 surround sound & stereo mixes of the album, (created from the original multi-track master tapes by ALAN PARSONS) and the promotional videos of “DON’T ANSWER ME” & “PRIME TIME”.

TRACK LISTING

At the moment this looks to be available as a Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set or stand alone Blu-Ray Edition. Price for the stand alone Blu-Ray is very reasonable at £11.99 or 15.98 United States Dollar.
I'm exitced to see and hear another Alan Parsons album in 5.1 Surround, as the others have been great IMO.
Now all they need to do is I Robot and Turn of A Friendly Card in 5.1 Surround !!!

I've pre ordered it from importcd. Target, Deep Discount and probably others have it as well.
Both Deep Discount and Importcd have it listed as an import. It's also listed at Amazon UK. SuperDeluxeEdition.com says it isn't region locked, although I don't know if blu ray audio ever is.

Pre-ordered from Burningshed a few days ago. Looking forward to it. I already have the HDAD version, and hoping this is even better.

How is it possible that I can order this disc from CD Imports in the US and get delivered to the UK cheaper than I can buy it in the UK

I try to avoid paying the 5.5% Maine sales tax by shopping in New Hampshire. But with the sales tax of 20% in the UK we don't have it that bad in Maine !

Are you sure you have Ammonia Avenue on HDAD? I have all of the Alan Parsons HDAD discs and Ammonia Avenue is not one of them.

Even if there was an Ammonia Avenue HDAD it would only be stereo as are the other APP HDADs. The Ammonia Avenue Blu-ray will have a 5.1 mix and that will be the biggest improvement .

If there's anyone that doesn't already own The Eye In The Sky Blu-ray Audio now would be a good time to grab it!

Pre Ordered from Cherry Red back in December.

With Alan's track record more likely 4.1!

Deep Discount and Import CD are the same company IIRC. Yeah, hope it's not region locked even though my Oppo has a region free hack and my Harmony is programmed so I can switch regions with a single button press... but still, lazy.

In the listing for the Ammonia Avenue Blu-ray on Burning Shed it indicates "region free".

Great! Thanks for the tip also, I pre-ordered mine today. Hope it's as good as Eye in the Sky.

Anyone know if there are any other Alan Parsons Project surround albums? Besides Eye in the Sky and Ammonia Avenue, the only other one I found on Discogs is the Edgar Allen Poe "concept" album (which doesn't really appeal to me).

Anyone know if there are any other Alan Parsons Project surround albums? Besides Eye in the Sky and Ammonia Avenue, the only other one I found on Discogs is the Edgar Allen Poe "concept" album (which doesn't really appeal to me).
I think the APP "Tales Of Mystery And Imagination Edgar Allan" is a good listen. Don't listen to it as much "Eye In The Sky" but still a good one to have in my collection.

I would avoid the recent APP CD/DVD-V release The Secret. Thought it was pretty lame and is a DVD-V not a DVD-A as some have claimed. Not Hi-Res!

Indeed you did, and I thank you! I pre-ordered my stand-alone blu-ray version back in early January from Bullmoose.com.

Ugh, hate the DVD-Vs masquerading as DVD-As... especially when they come in the Super Jewel Box King and indicate on the packaging that it's a "DVD-Audio"!

I've got lots of DVD-Vs that sound excellent. Mix and astering is what counts. How is the mix and mastering on The Secret?

I don't about anyone here but I can't remember finding the actual information on a disc releases cover as being misleading.

More often than not it's a vendor (such as Amazon) that gets the info wrong. Or a review site that probably hasn't even reviewed the actual disc

Titles that were incorrectly labeled that come to mind are both from Andy Jackson. His 73 Days At Sea CD/DVD-V set is labeled on the cardboard cover as "DVD-Audio" and having "DVD hi-res stereo & surround". That's incorrect as it'a a DVD-V and has lossy audio. His second title Signal To Noise CD/DVD-A set is labeled on the cardboard cover as having DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD audio. That's incorrect as it's not a Blu-ray Audio disc but a DVD-A with advanced hi-res stereo and surround.

73 Days At Sea is correctly listed on Discogs - https://www.discogs.com/Andy-Jackson...elease/8059109
Signal To Noise is correctly listed as well - https://www.discogs.com/Andy-Jackson...elease/6352934

It's common knowledge that the mix and mastering is a bigger factor and not disc format as far as SQ is concerned. As far as APP's The Secret is concerned it's just a poor album music wise IMO. No mix, mastering or disc format is going to save it. I played it once and that was enough for me.

I'm listening to APP's "Tales Of Mystery And Imagination Edgar Allan" Blu-ray. It's not a bad album with a very good multi-channel mix.

Hi and thanks Bill,

I wasn't aware Andy Jackson had released any albums. Indeed, there's no mention of them on his Wikipedia page!

Anyway I've just ordered them both
