It was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. I got it for 5.50 plus 2.66 shipping in very good cond. I didn't think I would win. I can always re-sell it. (edit) A lot of times if its a group I like I bid when the price is low then don't bid again. For ex. I just bid on a brand new Yes Fragile DVD audio disc. I'm not winning that one but I'll keep my eye on it. Its 12.5. If by some chance it stayed low and I could scoop it up I would flip it later....

Since these are all surround sound discs (I have them all), you should also post here: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/112-s...l#post47587049

Note: There is a stereo SACD of Avalon but I hope you got the surround version because it's considered a "reference" for 5.1 MCH.

Ah, sadly I got the Stereo version. My partner just came back from Japan and I got it from there. Oh well, you learn something every day. I assume the SACD-SHM in stereo is still a lot better than CD audio?

I have been surprised that SACD’s are so hard to find in UK and some that are available are outrageously expensive. At least I can buy from Japan.

SACD audio quality, per se, is better than Redbook CD audio. But it all depends on the content's audio quality. I'd think that a modern remastering from the original 1982 stereo mix would have unlocked some quality that is not heard on the CD.

I'd guess there is a UK-version of Amazon's site; did you look there? I have purchased form their German site ... ironically, I had to order Blu-ray of "Turn: Washington's Spies" Season 2, there as only DVD was available here.

Never listened to the Avalon stereo SACD.

This MCH SACD is a must have and 2482 yen is a very good price too: https://www.amazon.co.jp/%E3%83%9B%E...alifornia+sacd

This is crazy good sounding! I'm listening to the 5.1 channel track on the included DVD-Audio disc. After trying for years, I finally found it for a reasonable price on Discogs. Very nice sounding strings and horns! Not dynamically flat at all and has great transient peaks. Really deep bass as well in spots. I haven't yet listened to the CDs, so I can't say if or how much better the DVD-Audio sounds. Fortunately, two of my vehicles have DVD-Audio systems, so I can also listen to the DVD-A in the car.

FAMILY ROOM--Legacy Signature II tower speakers(Front L/R), PSB Image 5T tower speakers(Surrounds), Denon AVR-X5200W, Krell FPB 400cx, AR ES-1 turntable w/ Audioquest 404-B cartridge, Oppo UDP-203 UHD Blu-ray Player, RCA HD-DVD player, Samsung HL67A 750A TV
MASTER BEDROOM--Dynaudio Audience 82 tower speakers, Outlaw LFM-1 sub, Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver, Sherbourn 5/1500A 5-channel amp, Oppo BDP-83 Universal Disc Player, Panasonic 60-ST60 plasma TV.

My first time hearing a DVD-A was in my 2005 Acura TL, which of course lead me to buy a universal player for my theater. 165,000 miles on the Acura and my DVD-A/SACD/BD-Audio collection keeps on going as well.

Lol, I have 161,000 miles on my 2009 Buick Enclave with the DVD-A system! My Enclave has two disc slots, one for CDs and one for DVDs and DVD-Audio. I looked at and drove a 2018 Enclave and they don't even offer a CD player.

DVD-A capability is a major reason why I haven't traded in and upgraded my 2010 MDX (the DVD-Audio disks sound fantastic!). The other two things that are holding me back from getting a new vehicle are:

a) I purchased a lifetime Sirius/XM subscription before they quit offering it, so no monthly cost for me (and whomever owns the vehicle when I do sell it), and
b) I have a HUGE library of CD tunes on its hard disk - put in a CD and if not already saved it automatically records it to the hard disk, then you can edit out the songs you don't want to keep.

I haven't checked other vehicles (including new ones that I might be interested in) that have this capability, but my best guess is that it's no longer offered, possibly due to copyright reasons? When I first bought the MDX I borrowed a ton of CD's from my brother, about 20 at a time, to play and record to the hard drive. Of course at that point there was no need for me to go out and buy any of them.

When I do buy a new vehicle to replace the MDX I will, in all likelihood, be missing all of those favorite albums and singles. Ditto for the ability to play my rather extensive collection of DVD-Audio disks. Streaming low-res compressed music doesn't do much for me.

Found a very cool stereo SACD, featuring Lisa Gerrard (Dead can Dance, collaborates with Hans Zimmer, solo projects) and the Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices ensemble. Since vocals shine on ESLs, this sounds great on my MartinLogan Monoliths. But buy it for the music, it is sublime.
The recording is crystal clear and the SACD let's you hear every detail

Link to the SACD version on Amazon ($24): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BF3T9HM/

There is an $11 regular CD version as well.

Stereo, no 5.1.

You can listen to the tracks for free here as well as purchase it as a download (flac and other formats). I listened to a few tracks and I will not be adding this sacd to my collection. Just saying.

Oh, I guess that falls under hi-res, even though this is a surround forum.

Yeah, I really like most of their discography (and the live KEXP is excellent), but this electronic/produced/pop album isn't my taste. Still, I probably would have bought a surround version.

Yes this is a Surround Music Formats forum. If I recall the title to this thread was changed quite awhile ago to "What are your most recent Hi-Res purchases" from "What are your most recent Surround Hi-Res purchases?". The reasoning was to accommodate both surround and stereo Hi-Res in this thread and forum. Otherwise a new sub forum would have had to been created.

No it is as I originally noted, Stereo. But the Dolby Surround Upmixer in Atmos-enabled processors does a great job of turning into a MCH experience. I'm constantly amazed at how good a job it does at that.

Ideally, most of what we post here is about MCH, as that's the main goal, but occasionally, some high-rez recordings of note come around and are worth sharing.

I have been surprised that SACD’s are so hard to find in UK and some that are available are outrageously expensive. At least I can buy from Japan.
It's very important to be aware that SACD/surround albums often have multiple versions where one or some are stereo, or sometimes all versions are stereo. MC is definitely harder to find. Mobile Fidelity I think are all stereo so I don't get them except by accident

When buying online you have to inquire with the seller as sometimes they use the product info for the wrong version since there can be so many, so you may end up with a stereo version when you wanted the MC version, or vice versa, or a non-SACD when you thought you were getting the SACD. Has happened to me many a time...

Anyway, gotta get the MC Avalon as it is one of the best out there.
