I had been looking for it for years and finally found a used one at a reasonable price. Have patience and you may get lucky.

As GZAP1 mentioned the Sailing To Philadelphia CD/DVD-A set is well worth seeking out. It's easily one of my most favorite Mark Knopfler albums and the 5.1 mix is outstanding. Also look for the Shangri-La CD/DVD-A set as well. Both sets have extras on the DVD-A such as interviews and other interesting items.

Thanks for the tip, will put this one on my "to procure" list. I have the Shangri-la SACD, which was pretty cheap last year, already and haven't even listened to it once through yet so probably will skip the CD/DVD set, hehe.

Knofler has always been one of my favorites and I purchased both of these when they were each first released. I agree that each has an excellent 5.1 mix.

Being old and OOP myself, I too was there to purchase these and most of the other very sought after titles “back in the day.” Can’t really think of any other benefit though of being old enough to have done that.

As you listen to them you will hear the advancement in studio recording technology wrt analog recording. Genesis “documents” the same journey.

I got lucky and found all six of The Moody Blues SACDs which are in mint condition for under $71. I look forward to listening to them in chronological order.

Nope, your 103 is the perfect SACD ripping machine and very easy to get going. On the attached link, scroll down a ways on the first post to the link provided by Haggis999 and follow the instructions.

By the way, my recommendation is to disable the Auto Play and Auto Resume functions, before, inserting the usb stick into the Oppo. Also, my modus operandi is to save the disc as an ISO and then that can be converted to your desired format (FLAC, DSF, etc.)

Looks like you need Long Distance Voyager yet.

It's 2-channel (only) but then so is In Search Of The Lost Chord.

(edit) Are you sure ISOTLC is MCH?

Jeff,

You're 100% correct in that the In Search Of The Lost Chord Deluxe SACD is stereo only. Rookie mistake by me ! This is the second time I've done this in recent months. The last one was ELP's Brain Salad Surgery CD/DVD-A set that I thought had a multichannel mix. Of course that one's stereo only as well. I have to start paying more attention !

The 2-ch SACD is the only one available and, tucked in between all of the remixed albums, it's easy to get carried away. Besides, if you saw the Moodies back in the day, you might be able to upmix it to surround in your head.

FYI, there is some chatter on QuadrophonicQuad forum about the 5.1 mix. Its a 20-page thread and I haven't yet completed it.

Has anyone read anything about who remixed this into 5.1? The lore is that the original multitrack masters were lost.

Anyone considering this title should do their due diligence as what I am reading ... from early November posts ... some have returned their copies

Yeh, the 5.1 mix of ISotLC is generally getting a beat down on QQ. FWIW, the 24/96 stereo remix is getting a thumbs up though. Guess I'll pass unless I can get the DVD from the set at a reasonable price.

Nope...

If you want to back-up the DSD layer of your SACD's you need an OPPO BDP-10x player

If you look at the first post in the thread linked below there are other players besides the 103/103D and 105/105D that allow SACD ripping.

Players that have the Mediatek chips MT8580 (like Oppo 103/105, Cambridge Audio 752bd/cxu, Pioneer bdp-lx58/88 ) or MT8560 (like Pioneer BDP-160, 170 and BDP-80FD)

The thread indicates that you also need to "have normal factory firmwares (meaning no mods)"... does anyone know if the BDP-103 region free hardware mod (the one that you get on ebay and either plug into the rear USB port or install internally by connecting it to the service connector) needs to be removed to do this?
