The Cars - Heartbeat City (SACD Stereo)

Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session (SACD Stereo)

I've been waiting quite a while for the Cowboy Junkies disc to become available again.

Always a good thing when that comes to fruition....

There can be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth from some when it comes to Dual Discs. Personally, I don't mind them at all and I have a fair amount. They all play just fine in various Oppo's (83, 105, 203). All but one I've been able to play in the laptop CD player, in order to rip the CD side. Plus, for OOP print titles, they are almost always cheaper than the identical SACD or DVDA release. Sometimes they even include additional content not found in other releases.

I probably wouldn't try playing one in a vehicle CD player but that's why I rip the CD layer to a DAP for.

Keb Mo's The Door is an excellent SACD. The great thing about this thread is one is reminded of excellent discs that haven't been played in awhile. Once the mornings chores are done this SACD will be playing .

*I'm listening to The Door SACD as I type and it's a great album and sounds excellent! Well worth seeking out a copy.*

The universe works on crazy ways...I was listening to Peter Gabriel yesterday/this morning and putting it away this morning and the disc right beside it (out of order) is Keb Mo The Door and of course am listening to it now as well!

Agree Bill, this thread always reminds of a disc that gets lost in the collection...

4. Blof: Omarm me
5. Elton John: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
6. Toto: Africa
7. The Who: Pinball wizard
8. Bob Dylan: I Want You
9. Roger Waters: Another brick in the wall

For anyone who may be interested in this disc, there is a used copy of Keb Mo: The Door on discogs for $28 shipped with a 'make an offer' option. That's a pretty good price for this OOP disc.

Dang Bill, it seems you are slowing down. Guessing you are having a hard time finding anything you don’t already own. And yes, I am jealous.

Jim,

I definitely have slowed down for sure. I have been very fortunate to have found just about all the hi-res titles that were on my wish list. Lucky as well to have been able to find most of the titles at low to fair prices which is half the battle. You'll get there as well!

Bill

My SACD collection and HRAudio.net Library, getting larger as my wallet gets smaller ;-).

Emotiva XMC-1, Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE (preamp), SX-500s, ST-500, ST-250, Marantz SA-10, Oppo UDP-205, UDP-203, BDP-105, BDP-103, BDP-93, BDP-83, Panasonic TC-P60GT50, Panamax 5100EX, Salk HT2-TLs, Salk 1801b center, Salk 1801TL (surrounds) and two Rythmik F12SEs.

Bill, curious as to what your total Hi-Res count is up to? (I know, who's counting? lol)

Also, I see that you have any number of Oppo players, presumably still in use? With Oppo no longer in the business of making new universal players, I am wondering which of the models you own clearly stand out in terms of sound quality when playing your Hi-Res discs?
Or is there is no discernible difference between the various models?
And which on the used market, in your opinion, would deliver the biggest 'bang for the buck'?
Or is there another manufacturer's new model that provides equal or better SQ?

Denon AVR-X7200WA
Odyssey HT-3 Plus
Infinity Prelude MTS
HSU ULS-15 MK2 DualDrive

JB,

The Hi-Res count per HRAudio.net is at 711 titles. It might be closer to 800 as that does not include many of the DVD-As in my collection. As I posted earlier I'm really fortunate to have the collection which is a true passion. Some collect stamps, coins or other items of interest. Some do it as an investment and or as a hobby. I don't see collecting Hi-Res as an investment but more of a hobby.

I've been a fan of Oppo players for a number of years. I've owned just about every one of their players accept the first ones. So like with collecting Hi-Res music I've taken up buying Oppo players. I've had the 103, 203 and 205 (x2) for awhile. But recently bought an 83, 93 and 105. The 83 was at a great price but needed a new face plate (heavy scratches) which Oppo had in stock. The 93 is not reading discs so that was priced quite low and the seller sent it direct to Oppo for repairs. The 83 with the cost of the face plate and player was about $185. Oppo shipped the faceplate and I changed it out as it wasn't that difficult. The 93 with Oppo's $99 repair flat rate was $149. The 105 was $725 shipped and is in excellent shape.

I'm currently using a 205 in my main system and the 105 is in a small bedroom system. I'd say the 205 is the best sounding player followed by the 105. Then it'd be the 103, 93 and 83 in that order. All sound quality comparisons would be analog only. My thoughts are with Oppo no longer in the universal player market it wouldn't hurt to make a small investment in some of their players to secure long term all format disc playback.

The only currently available universal player that I would consider buying is the Pioneer LX-500. It looks like a nice player but when compared to the Oppo 203 and 205 it's lacking in features. I'd say the 95 and the 105 are the best priced used Oppo players with the best sound quality if one will be using the analog outputs. If one is not using analog the 83, 93 and 103 are excellent choices. The only down side with the 95 is that it has a fan that I found to be audible from 6'-8'. Of course all of those players do not have 4k playback. I don't have a 4k display so the lack of 4k playback with the older Oppo players is not a concern at this time.
