Comments at Discogs claim that some Dire Straits SACD's sound worse than earlier CD releases due to DR compression, maybe other issues.

I have all four of the new Dire Straits MOFI SACDs. They all sound quite good and going off memory are as good if not better than the many digital versions of each disc in my collection. In all honesty I pay very little attention to DR values and prefer actual listening to form an opinion of specific titles. There are no issues as far as I know. These SACDs were remastered from the original master recordings, they were not remixed.

My SACD collection and HRAudio.net Library, getting larger as my wallet gets smaller ;-).

Emotiva XMC-1, Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE (preamp), SX-500s, ST-500, ST-250, Marantz SA-10, Oppo UDP-205, UDP-203, BDP-105, BDP-103, BDP-93, BDP-83, Panasonic TC-P60GT50, Panamax 5100EX, Salk HT2-TLs, Salk 1801b center, Salk 1801TL (surrounds) and two Rythmik F12SEs.

May have been non-MOFI versions. Several SACD releases in Japan and US, maybe elsewhere since mid 2000's

Again, not my claim, just forwarding what I read on Discogs.

Understood. I assumed you were talking about the Dire Straits MOFI SACDs. When in fact you did not mention "MOFI". My bad. I have many Dire Straits SACDs and some are not the best sounding. Don't recall which ones though.

I was OCD long before becoming an "audiophile" .

Thanks Bill, appreciate the response! I wanted to hear a few opinions before dropping close to $60 a disc up here in Canada.

That's the best I could do re: phonetic spelling of the Canadianese "dollar"

Having lived around SE MI across the river from Windsor ON my entire life, I'm always amazed at the consistency of the Canadian accent just across the river, given the amount of American TV, radio and interaction with Americans they have.

The Canadian/Ontario accent is subtle but identifiable to those of us who've lived near the Detroit suburb of Windsor a long time

Prior to 9/11, SE MI-ganders could take the Detroit-Windsor chunnel or bridge to CA for a few hrs/days in Windsor, Toronto, Niagra Falls ON, etc, with little/no hassle without passport or any ID for that matter. It was pretty casual. I used to go to Windsor to check out Hifi and computer stores on US holidays like July 4th, etc in the 80's-90's, as a teen/20-something student driving alone!

ALso, I'm told prior to the 70's, you could walk across the Ambassador Bridge from Detroit to Windsor for lunch without issue.

Before Checkpoint Charlie was installed at the crossings, I could be in Windsor in ~10-15 min from my house.

Not quite the review you've asked for, but I did a comparison of my Love Over Gold LP, that I bought in the '80's, with the Mofi SACD tonight. The LP is a "Mfd. by RCA Music Service under License" version, which I always thought were sub-par to the real releases. With that said, I thought the LP had a wider sound stage, but the SACD had more of a punch with the sounds of each instrument. It was a close call between the two, but I'd opt for the SACD version for critical listening.
