Max Cooper: Emergence (Blu Ray / ATMOS)

This is supposed to be an audio and visual tour de force. I scored a copy off of Amazon at $18 but now appears to be sold out.

That looks really interesting, I'd like to hear your thoughts after you've viewed it.

I thought the concept of "Pure Audio" discs was that they didn't contain video?

If you want to go down a rabbit hole, check out a few videos by this guy Dirk Koy:

I am looking for a music streaming service that provides 5.1 surround sound music. I am aware that Tidal and Amazon Music offer hi-res music but I specifically would like to find streaming 5.1.

(Apologies if this there is a more appropriate sub for my question but my guess is the folks on the sub can point me in the right direction.)

You might want to post your question here: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/112-s...l#post59146150

To my knowledge there aren’t any services streaming in surround other than Amazon and Tidal’s “Atmos” services. I put Atmos in quotes because Tidal’s is only available on certain Android phones via headphones and Amazon’s is only available on their Echo Studio speaker. Nothing surround or immersive about that...Sony’s 3D audio streaming is supposed to come to streaming as well but I am not sure about those details. It will likely be disappointing to those of us with legit surround systems as well...

Thanks for the reply. My hope is to stream to my Apple TV which is of course connected to my system.

I ordered Emergence January 22nd with a ship date of 1 -2 months! I was like WTF but went ahead and ordered anyway. My Amazon account is indicating an arrival date of March 10.

I'll be sure to report back once I give it a listen or two.

$8.25, actually. And I just bought it! Thanks!!

Bela Fleck is from another planet and I buy everything I can of his. His playing a bass guitar a la a banjo in live Flectone concerts is mind-blowing. That Victor Wooten stands next to him playing his banjo a la a bass is just way too much to process.

Thanks for that Bela Fleck eBay link.

Apropos of nothing other than my future worries (read: paranoia?), I'm concerned about no new 4K players being introduced at CES last month. Correct me if I'm wrong, that leaves Sony's X800M2 as the sole "current" UHD deck supporting DVD-A. If we're not getting any new UHD BD universal (and by that I mean CD, SA-CD, DVD-V and -A, BD and UHD BD) players going forward . . . and if my OPPO 203 dies . . . the options are slim. Mildly concerned about the anecdotal reports in owners' threads about the X800M2 freezing more often than it "should."

Going back to, say, and old Denon or OPPO DVD-A player (that would be pre-HDMI) would mean one has to have an AVR with m.c. analog inputs. And two sets of calibrations. Kind of a headache?

Am concerned about DVD-A becoming an orphaned format as far as current/supported hardware is concerned.

Re DVD-A, no worries. Rip ‘em and play via DLNA or local storage. Are there any new releases? Hasn’t BD-Audio become the medium of choice?

Sorry but not really interested in ripping stuff. Prefer to keep it simple(r). Haven't even (yet) dipped into a local storage device for music. There are literally a couple thousand discs I wanna get on my Amazon Wish Lists.

Except for UMGs "box" classical releases that include CDs and the uber deluxe editions like Hotel California, there isn't much going on with "BD-A."

Understood. My comments were meant as a workaround in case optical players with DVD-A format compatibility go away.

My days for buying CDs were over some time ago. And I snore at "uber deluxe packages." It's all about the music.

For "normal-res" music, aka CDs, aka background music, there is streaming or simply a music "channel" on Amazon or Xfinity. My critical, focused listening is hi-res only. SACD, DVD-A and, yes, Bluray Audio.

YMMV
