You are gonna build one? After all these years the FV15HP is the king of 15 inch subs. The FV18 is right up there with it for 18 inch and the FV28 is going to set the benchmark for dual 18s.

No, I am thinking ahead if I blow the driver or amp on the fv15hp lol I am waiting on the FV28 seeing as dual fv25hp wasn't enough for me so I'm more then 100% dual fv28 will hit the sweet spot. For the time beign I just moved into a rental house from condo so I can resume BASS addiction

Hello everyone,

Can anyone comment on how the Rythmik FVX15 ($1069 shipped) compares to the HSU VTF15 MK2 ($1012 shipped)? I'm trying to decide whether I should go dual PB12-NSD or purchase one 15" sub at around the $1000 price point with the option to upgrade in the future if I feel the need. The FVX15 and HSU VTF15 MK2 both are priced right around $1k. HSU publishes CEA 2010 Measurements but I don't see anything similar for the FVX15.

FVX15 is just an FV15HP minus 2.5 dB, if that helps. Note, the FV15HP numbers on data-bass are a little high due to the different testing method used way back then for that sub. They are not comparable to tests run today.

That's a deal breaker for me. I guess I need to wrap my head around waiting on these G28HP's!! I want the best, and then be done for a while. Other hobbies need attention.

Interesting results indeed! How did you have the FV18 configured as far as port tune, extension, damping? Most definite interested in the REW sweeps when you get to that point.

That’s a bummer about the hum. Never fun when you plug in a new piece of gear and get that dreaded sound. Hopefully it’s an easy remedy.

A sealed sub will have a better FR in room. So the comment about out performing the FV18 is interesting in the ULF. I know my submersives were flat down to 5hz in my room but lacked the attack and violence of a ported sub. So would like to know what outperform means. Also important to note is that sealed subs should have better SQ than ported subs but in this case it was the opposite. Good stuff man.

I appreciate the early impressions but I think we need to give it more time. Not to take anything away from zambine's post, but let's give him another week or two to really get a feel for things.

Hey Ray

For some reason my particular HT creates an insane amount of room gain under 20Hz with my S3010/S3012s (maybe it's the angled ceiling, IDK?). If you recall, the reason I purchased my FV18s is because I love mid-bass chest slam and I could not get it with my S3010s without being overwhelmed by muddy ULF in the room (the S3012 may have lessened this issue but I need to test more first). I eventually added back one S3010 into my HT as a near field sub behind my MLP but two simply did not work for me due to too much ULF.

When I say "outperform" I guess I mean that to my ears a single S3012 simply sounds weightier than the FV18 and seems to pressurize and shake the whole room more when it hits. Too much of this to me personally can be a bad thing but others may prefer it. I think the SQ/accuracy of the S3012 is very close to the FV18 but I need to test more material before I can call them equal or not. If someone has a small space and cannot fit an FV18 grabbing an S3012 may be a viable alternative. I will share more impressions later on but I'm going to take some more time to live with them a bit and test more first as I don't want to jump the gun given the small sample size I have so far.

Next week I'm going to setup both dual S3012s and FV18s in my room and do some REW testing just because I'm curious and I can.

Zambine, what damping and extension settings do you use on the FV18?

Can someone explain to me the benefits of the metal cone in the FVX12 over the driver in the LVX12? I think the metal cone looks a lot nicer but beyond that, I don't know what benefits there are to it. I am seriously considering ordering two LVX12 of FVX12 and I am trying to decide if the different driver is worth another couple hundred dollars to me. It looks like both the LVX12 and FVX12 have the same max DB output, but I doubt I will run these at max volume and I am guessing there are advantages and disadvantages of the metal cone driver which I am ignorant of.

Thanks. Make sure you state that in your comparisons, and be sure to try High Damping. That will more clearly show the difference between the "Rythmik sound" and others.

This is a very good question that I am very interested in and hoping someone can answer it. This is well above my pay rate lol

I tagged you in the comparison and impressions thread asking for you to post your initial and later impressions there so that we can have an open discussion on the differences. Many folks don't want to post on the owner's thread out of respect and courtesy or in some cases pissing off some one...

If you think SQ is great with low damping, I encourage you to flip the switch to hi and get ready to be surprise

On your s3012/FV18 comparison, where do you have the FV18 sit at? same exact spot as the s3012, I hope? Did you verify the spl at the mlp for both subs to be at the same level?

IMO, subs comparison should have its own thread or one can post in Ray’s sub comparison thread to open it up to public and to avoid fans biased opinions/takes from owner threads. This makes it more open and more interesting hearing from the general audiences and allow them to speak freely.

Is there a known valid email address to reach Brian at Rythmik? He gave me an address during a phone call, but I have not been able to get a message through as it gives a message that the server was temporarily unavailable. It keeps trying and gets the same result, that’s the email address cannot be reached. It never says it is a bad address. This has been going on since Thursday. Does Rythmik have a generic email address? I am trying to follow up on our phone conversation. I appreciate any assistance provided.

Does Brian have a direct email address like Enrico? The one I have been trying is still not working. I sent a copy to the two addresses posted above, but have yet to receive a response on those as well.

I sent a note through their system last night. Didn't get any type of error, or confirmation message. Still waiting to hear back, but it is the weekend. Picking up a pair for a Christmas present as well. Can't wait!

+1

Every one is entitle to have some time off, and was very surprise last night. When I send an e-mail last night, about my subs been hold by a third party broker at the border. Getting a response within an hour, since it was information for Monday been the week-end.

Perhaps, at this point since they just got a new shipment. They are extremely busy, with the back orders. And will take of the general questions, tomorrow or this week.

Just joined the club with a E15 HP. My first big boy sub. Been fiddling about with it at 14Hz with Low Dampening and Rumble off, 80hz cross over on all speakers. So far running with EQ off and I am extermely impressed with the bass response. Not only does it dig much deeper than my Polk 705's, but the rest of my speakers opened up when I took the load off and gave them more power.

Figure I'd give it a week or two before I run Auddyssey XT32. Calibrated with an SPL meter to 75dB C weighted though. Is that enough time for break in?

Perhaps, at this point since they just got a new shipment. They are extremely busy, with the back orders. And will take of the general questions, tomorrow or this week.

It looks like both the LVX12 and FVX12 have the same max DB output, but I doubt I will run these at max volume and I am guessing there are advantages and disadvantages of the metal cone driver which I am ignorant of.

Here's what Rythmik description is for the FV18, and should be the same;

"Standard FV18 version uses metal cone DS1820 for its stiffness and low distortion. The independent test lab site www.data-bass.com has published the max distortion numbers for our metal cone FV18 and F18. The F18 has lower distortion and yet more output than Velodyne DD18+ for 1/3 of the price. Paper cone like the one used in Velodyne DD18+ can be made lighter than metal cone and therefore improve outputs above 50hz by up to 3db with the sacrifice of slightly higher distortions. For those who are after the maximum headroom in HT application may consider the paper cone version FV18SW (with paper cone SW1825). The order links are towards the bottom of this page."

It's heading in the right direction.

I was able to speak with Enricco today. He is very easy to chat with on the phone, nice guy . I am no closer, however, to deciding between a pair of the FVX15's or FV15HP's.
