Hey,

Looking to finally get a subwoofer. I've been reading a lot of good reviews of the Hsu STF-2. However, I have a friend who swears by Velodyne, and I was looking at the Impact 10.

Any recommendation? Price isn't an issue. Just looking for some great bass for listening to music

If you have some flexibility on price, if you provide the information listed in this post (items #1-7), people can make a recommendation on the sub that would be the best value for your money for your particular needs.

In a comparison of only the 2 subs you have mentioned, the HSU is the better sub. The HSU is good to 25Hz, while the Impact 10 is good down to only to 32Hz.

The small size of the Impact 10 works against it.

OK, here's the answers to the general questions:

Budget: $400
Size Requirements: None
Room Dimensions: About 20 x 15 x 15
Primary Use: Half movies / Half music
Listening Habits: Rock music
Appearance: None
Timeframe: None

Any suggestions other than what I already was thinking?

That's a large room-you might need a lot more than the STF-2 or Velo to fill it.

You have a very big space. If you can move up to the $500-$600 range for 12" subs, you'll be better off. 10" subs are better for small to medium size rooms. Not only will 12" be more powerful, but they will dig much deeper. You would get a substantial improvement over a 10" for HT and would not regret the purchase at all once you heard the difference during movies. Something like the Rythmik FV12 at $500+ shipping.

The Rythmik is a little out of my price range. Looking to spend $400 tops.

How about the HSU? Anything better than that under $400?

At or under $400? The Emotiva Ultra Sub 12 is another one you could consider at $429.

Or the new Emotiva X-Ref 10 which has a little bit more output then their older Ultra 12. Same price $429. That is shipped.

If you want to read a review on the Ultra 12, go over to Audioholics. They loved it.

You need a 12" sub with at least a 200W output, I would suggest increasing your budget by $100-200 as others have suggested. Good luck In that bit of a space, I would get a ported sub (I am saving for a ported one myself).

I didn't realize the X-Ref 10 has more output than the Ultra 12. That would be a good deal. Or the b-stock Outlaw Audio LFM-1 Plus at $449 shipped.

I would go for the b-stock Outlaw sub, that will stomp all those other subs, especially in deep bass.
