Their RBG12S is a PA subwoofer though, which is a different market then what I'm tracking; this list is for products designed for HT and 2 channel music systems. The Kinyo has a 5.5" driver, which means it isn't really a subwoofer. I have established a minimum driver size of 8" because anything smaller is a mid-bass module more than anything else.
I didn't see the "8" minumum size requirement. I don't know if anybody has mentioned the following yet..

Blue Octave DS10. $99.00

To me, that seemed like a SMOKIN' good deal on a sub that normally lists for around $400 and up online . . . I think you can even order it directly from their website and have regular delivery, but of course, shipping charges will apply . . .
the sub12 hg is well known here

its been as low as 169 iirc i got mine a few years ago from frys for 199 with free shipping

200 used to be the standard sale price for it everywhere

It's rare when someone posts about a budget sub I wasn't aware of, but you seem to be pretty good with that. Unfortunately there's a problem with those as it relates to the manufacturers website. About 2 years ago I added the following disclaimer to the first post...

UPDATE 3/3/16: Up until today I had included subwoofers even when the manufacturers website could not be found. I've since decided if they aren't interested in having the general public know who they are that I wouldn't list them here. All links to products like that have been removed.

I had been finding too many companys selling subwoofers that had no internet presence except for distributors. That was the sales model for Acoustic Audio, and having seen what they did to their customers a few years back I decided that no website meant no inclusion. Checking the first 5 pages on google came up with no link for Stellar Labs, so it's likely they don't have a website. Blue Octave does have a website but none of those 3 sub are mentioned. They do show passive in-wall subwoofers, but no powered models. Those appear to be just the generic OEM Goodwood units that places like Theater Solutions also sell, so perhaps that's the reason they aren't listed.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite...

I just purchased a pair of Kef Q100 bookshelf speakers as well as a Yamaha A660 AVR and was wondering what sub would be best. There are so many options on this thread. I was recommended the Emotiva sub10 but heard great things about the BIC and Dayton audio. I know this post was initially started years ago so things have probably changed a lot since then but any recommendations that would fit well with the AVR and speakers would be helpful!

I listen to a lot of progressive rock, blues, metal, and this will also be used as a home theater system where I watch a decent amount of action/thriller and scifi.

Thanks!

Stellar Labs has long been an MCM house brand. Sometimes you see stuff at MCM labeled as MCM product and sometimes Stellar Labs. MCM has changed its name to Newark I guess. Like with monoprice, you have no idea who the heck is the OEM for a lot of their stuff. Any support would run through MCM/Newark.

Blue Octave I think is definitely an Acoustic Audio/Theater Solutions type product. Actually think it's the same company behind it. All three are sold through onlyfactorydirect. https://www.onlyfactorydirect.com/

The ELAC S10EQ is a very compact, yet potent sub. It's normally $500, but on sale for $280. It has the unique feature where you control and tweak the sub from an app for android or apple. Pretty col sub and performs pretty well.

That seems to be a great deal. I see you have that one as well as a 12" monolith. I was kind of leaning toward the 10" Monolith for $500 and going to wait until eBay had a promo code to try getting it for ~$425 or so. Between the two, does the Elac even compare? They are similar price ranges when not on sale so should I hop on the Elac at this price or try stretching my budget to grab the Monoprice?

Thanks for the suggestion! The smart tweaking feature does sound nice!

I think I saw in another thread that you picked up the Monolith 10 for $450 using the ebay promo code. The Monolith 10 should be a much more capable sub than the ELAC S10EQ.

Yes that was me! I didn't realize there was a Deals Thread so that wasn't allowed... Oops. But I couldn't pass it up. I was going to stretch my budget for the 12" emotiva but for 50 more I get a ported sub that has a better extension. Felt like a no brainer. It comes next Wednesday so I can't wait to hear it!

List of budget subwoofers ($300 and less)

@MIX_MASTER_ICE
What sub would fit best with the Yamaha YAS-107 soundbar? I have a 15x15 seating area, but once you stand up and move around in our basement rec room 800 sq ft, bass is harder to hear. I don’t want the sub to drown the soundbar if you know what I mean, but I also want strong, deep bass.

I have zero experience with soundbars, but in the $200 range the Polk PSW505 is a solid sub.

12” sub would it be overkill for a soundbar that can connect to a powered sub?

No. In a ~6,000 cu.ft. space, overkill is the least of your concerns.

Anybody have any hints on where to get the Klipsch Sub-12HG for ~$200? I've been researching all day long, finally picked this one because of it's lower frequency response (mid-20's) and have seen tens of people saying they got it for $180-200...but cheapest I've been able to find it for online is around $350. Did they discontinue it or something? (some of these posts were pretty recent).

Runner-up is the Bic F12 for $212, but even though that one is listed as 25Hz, people say it doesn't really get there and the Klipsch is better.

I picked mine up at Fry's . . . it was On Sale at the time, and apparently it goes on sale frequently . . . you can check their website and maybe purchase it the next time it goes on sale there . . .

Thanks. I signed up for their newsletter and will check the site as often as I can....problem now is in a few days I'll have a 5.1 setup all ready to go...but with no woofer (and my surrounds have like zero bass they're so small)...so do I waste $100 on a cheap sub...then another $200 on the Klipsch Sub-12HG when it gets back in stock or what?

Do any of the other around $200-$250 woofers go down to the mid 20Hz like the Klipsch does? (and actually reach that level - not just in their advertising specs which are sometimes wishful thinking and don't translate to the real world)

You can wait for the BIC Acoustech PL-200 II to go on sale, and be notified when it does so:

From the manufacturer:

Not sure what the volume of space is, or the target output levels. But one budget subwoofer may have difficulty keeping up with 5 satellites, especially at high output levels. Have you considered an x.2 system? This would cut in-half the sat:sub ratio. (If you have only one sub-out jack, you can split the signal with a "Y" RCA cable.)

And to remain within the budget, have you checked the second-hand market?

I haven't seen the Klipsch sub-12hg on sale at frys.com lately. One other option that is similar and often available for under $200 is the Polk PSW505.

Quick question. What is the best resource for researching subwoofers for automotive use? Looking for a budget bang for your buck recommendation

Not sure the Basx8 was ever considered the best $200 option. How much output and extension are you looking for? Something like the Dayton SUB-12 might work better for them, and it's well under $200.
