Are you getting it for the demo price or the retail price?

I placed the order for demo unit so the price is demo price.
As far as I can tell, XTZ currently offers demo unit as pre-order, like a waiting list for demo unit.
The catch is they took the full amount up front. Right now the wait time is 5 weeks.
I am willing to wait because of the tremendous saving from the retail price.
IMO no sub can beat 3x12 at that price. Let's see what happens.

Maybe $2998 is for the brand new unit? $1499 is demo unit price?

I wouldn't be comfortable with them taking a pre-order that will be 5 weeks or longer to ship and charging your CC up-front. This, particularly, with their sub-par communication.

I paid with paypal so I'm not worrying too much.
I got their reply regarding availability in less than 24 hours also gave me confidence.
Hope everything turns out alright.

Yeah, I don't doubt that others might not be uncomfortable with this. Kinda gives me Reaction Audio flashbacks, however. I've had issues with Paypal in the past, with one problem that drug out for months. I avoid Paypal like the plague now.

It looks like the CEO handle my email personally and quick. I would say I'm impressed.
Maybe they saw the complaints on the AVS forum?

Good to see they are communicating well with you. Maybe Olle did a little arse-chewing to get things back on track over here.

Great News

That's great to see that they are communicating back. I hesitated on ordering their cinema series speakers because of their lack of response to others and a couple of my emails. Maybe they were missed during the warehouse move and things are getting back in order.

I'm now kicking myself that I hesitated on purchasing the cinema series speakers at a great price.

You guys think one 3x12 is enough for 19'x13'x8 roughly 1950 cuft space?
I want to put it horizontally right behind the seat as near field placement.

Just a heads-up that the 1X12 demo for $599 is currently back in stock. They had two, now one.

Does everyone consider the 3x12 a great deal if it can still be had for $1,499?

Can’t speak for everyone but most who have any interest in this sub would say yes as long you understand the customer service caveats.

Performance wise, the 3X12 is similar to the $2200 JTR Cap1400 and that price will be even higher when you add in shipping. So on paper, yes, it's a good deal. Claridy amps and THX Ultra certification are also pluses.

Does XTZ no longer make the middle child sub in the Cinema series? I see the 1X12 and 3X12, but was there a 2X12? This link shows a pic of a dual driver sub just like the others. Did XTZ do away with it?

I never heard of the 2x12 but it does make sense. If you have a 1 and a 3 why not a 2 as well? Would complete the line.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite...

I have seen some discussion boards and the 2X12 was mentioned. I would have been all over a 2X12, as the 3X12 is really too tall for what I need and takes up too much floor space laid on it's side. I guess the 2X12 was very short lived. Anyway, got the shipping notice and the 1X12 is due to arrive Monday.

Nice. Did you happen to inquire what their policy is if you did not like the sub and want to return?

Does XTZ no longer make the middle child sub in the Cinema series? I see the 1X12 and 3X12, but was there a 2X12? This link shows a pic of a dual driver sub just like the others. Did XTZ do away with it?

This post is from two years ago. I'm guessing they deemed a 2x12 unnecessary as you can stack 1x12s and even 3x12s!

Hi,

Congratulations! That's a very good price for that subwoofer. To answer your first question about whether a single XTZ 3X12 will be enough, I think that depends even more on your own listening habits than it does on your room size. But, coming from your two JBL subs, this will be a big upgrade in output and tactile response. So, I think that the single sub may very well be enough.

With respect to your second question about the optimal location for your sub, I'm afraid that you will just have to experiment to determine what works best. Placing the subwoofer directly behind your listening position, in either a vertical or a horizontal alignment, could work very well. That would intensify the tactile bass sensations even more than the SPL (vertical especially so), and it would help to take the room out of the equation to some extent.

The potential downside to that placement could be that you might be able to localize the subwoofer more easily with it right behind you. Some people are a little more aware of that sort of thing than others, and it also depends somewhat on the crossovers you are using in your front soundstage. The higher your crossovers, the easier it would be to tell that bass sounds and sensations were coming from behind you rather than from the screen. But, I would absolutely give that location a try and see what you think.

If I were you, once the subwoofer is delivered, I would put some furniture sliders under it and move it around a bit. Once you have found the location that you like best, you can dial-it-in with Audyssey and really start to enjoy your new bass sounds and sensations. If you are like most of us, don't be too surprised if you eventually find yourself wanting a second one, just because.

Regards,
Mike

I'll do some direct comparing of the 1X12 to the RBH I-12/e when I get my hands on the XTZ sub. I'm not sure it would be a fair comparison to put it up against the Monolith THX Ultra 12. It may possibly arrive at the FedEx terminal tomorrow. If it does I'll go pick it up, as it's only about 2 miles from my house. I'm off work the next 2 weeks, so I'll have some free time to play around with some comparisons. The I-12/e is a really nice sub, so it should be interesting to see how the 1X12 compares.

Good! I'd like to hear other ppl's opinions who have much more experience than I do. I've received alot of messages asking my thoughts on my 3x12 and it's difficult to say because I like all subs lol. I haven't found anything bad to say about my previous SVS PB12-NSD, or my PSA V1801, or my XTZ 3x12. If I keep moving up its cuz I apparently like alot of bass lol, but not because any of these subs weren't good enough. I look forward to your thoughts.

Well, FedEx did what they do best, damage packages. Went and picked up the 1X12 today and noticed a puncture through the cardboard. The entire box is wrapped in black plastic, so it's possible to have significant damage and not be able to see it. Not sure why XTZ wraps the boxes in black plastic. Anyway, I've had packages with bumps and bruises before, so I figured it was packaged/protected well enough that it should be fine. Once home and removing the black plastic, I could see the damage was far more significant. Looks like this box probably fell off the top of a stack and landed badly on something. Removed the sub from the box and all looked okay until I noticed a lighter color areas around the driver. The jolt the box took cracked loose areas where the driver is connected to the front of the sub. This is very disappointing and I guess we'll see how XTZ customer support handles the issue.
