I just upgraded to an Ascend Acoustics Sierra-2 5 speaker setup. I debated adding dedicated ceiling speakers, but that seemed like an expensive way to test Dolby Atmos, so I went with the Ascend Acoustics HTM-200 since they are sealed and have holes already drilled for mounting.

I set up the two ceiling speakers in front of the primary listening area because I can't mount them behind on the ceiling. I really liked the immersion and the way that the .2 sounded for movies, so I decided to order two more for .4. So they should be here this week, possibly before my PSA S3601. So I'll hopefully have everything by this weekend for a movie marathon.

I've seen those speakers mentioned here and there on the forums; they give off the impression as being really robust units.

Yeah, man, I was immediately all smiles when I starting playing my demo Atmos files one after another once I got my heights mounted. So it was immediately obvious that another pair would be awesome. Where to put them, I have no idea. I went top middle thinking I didn't want to go overboard in my room, but eh, I don't know. I don't have a complete back wall to go FH\RH, but supposedly FH\TM works. We'll see.

So you're getting an S3601. Hope it rocks your socks off.

I got my two S1801's this morning. I had talked to Tom on Friday and he said he was shipping them either on Friday or Monday. I didn't get a shipping confirmation(might have went to spam) so I assumed they weren't shipping until monday. I got a knock on the door while I was getting ready for work this morning and they were outside. What a pleasant surprise! Well, I was going to go to work.

I guess ill start with a little backstory. In the end of November/beginning of December I decided to get a home theater setup. After researching for awhile I decided on and Andrew Jones Pioneer 5.0 speaker set and a SVS PB-2000 sub. I do think the Pioneers are a good entry level speaker set for the money, but i knew right away that I wanted more. I also thought that the AJ speakers were the weak link in the system that needed to be upgraded first. I decided that instead of making several marginal upgrades and wasting money I wanted to go from the AJ Pioneers right to my end game. After sever weeks researching I decided to buy a full 5.0 set of MT-110's and MT-110SR's. Got the 110's around the beginning of January. I got them set up and was blown away by them in every way. But it was immediately apparent that my PB-2000 was a very weak link in the system now. I noticed it much more with music than movies. So about 1-2 days after I get the MT-110s I preorder two V1801's(which I later switched to S1801's) and the waiting game starts. And then today happpened!

Today I got the S1801's setup under the left and right MT-110's and got to listen to music for about 2 hours after I did the Audessey setup. Now for my first impressions and please take note that I am very new to home theater, I do not consider myself an audiophile. Hell, I don't even know what words to use most of the time so I will be speaking in layman's terms quite a bit The first thing I noticed with the S1801's was how consistent the sound quality was. With the PB-2000 music was the subs weak point fore sure. Some songs the bass would sound just OK and some songs the bass would sound pretty bad. I really noticed it on the song from Mad Season - Wake up. On the bassline in the beginning some frequencies on the PB-2000 just didnt play well at all. Well the S1801's hit it and every other song out of the park. When I played Pantera - 13 Steps to Nowhere on the PB-2000 I thought the drum kick in the beginning was going to blow the driver out, on the S1801 its effortless and so much cleaner and less distorted. The whole systems is balanced now. It makes the MT-110's sound so much better as well. Every single song I play blows me away with how good it sounds. I dont know how to describe it, i know the bass is much louder than before, but it doesnt sound much louder because of how much cleaner it is. It just sounds......better. So anyone out there with PSA speakers that has a lower quality sub, do yourself a favor and upgrade, you are doing your self and your speakers a huge disservice and you don't know what you're missing.

Also I dont want to sound too harsh on the PB-2000. I know its in a completely different class than the S1801's. Also I havent watched any movies yet so im excited for that comparison. That was where the PB-2000 shined IMO.

Appreciate you taking the time to write up your opinions on the S1801. My single unit just shipped today, so I'm certainly hoping to experience the same positive results.

May I ask, though...why did you go sealed over ported? I really, really like my sealed subs now, but I read these forums so much, I ask myself what I'm missing by having ported. I know there's no right or wrong answer to that oft-asked question; I know a lot has to do with personal audio preference.

I have a pretty big space(4,200 ft3) and want great music and movie performance. I'm sure the S1801's will be all id ever need for music but I have the option and I'm planning to add a s3601 to have that crazy low end for movies.

I honestly have no clue what could possibly be the hold up. To add the ability to save a few different curves and change them to your liking is pretty basic coding.
Yeah I just found out that the App will basically only allow you to select a few different presets and change them as you say to your liking and no mention at all if you could manually EQ the subs. I was really expecting a lot more and then finding out that the app is still not available is real bummer. The reviews I've read all say the sound quality has geared up a bit from last year's model but I have all outboard amps any way.

I just really want a new receiver for Atmos and 4K, the TV will be the last installment. Thanks for the heads up my friend, I agree the hold up plus no details is quite NON inspiring, the App may be the same...........

For manual PEQ control, Yamaha is likely the best choice. Maybe look at Pioneer Elite as well. However, you can always add a MiniDSP to a D/M Audyssey XT32 receiver.

IIRC, he already has a MiniDSP. I can't remember if he ever started using it though.

DANG!!!!! These new XX01 subs look fantastic. Tang I looked at your pictures and I felt my heart skip a beat. I can't wait to get my new V3601's, I think I'll have to run them with the covers off… it seems a down right shame to cover up those drivers.

The subs look so innocent with the driver covered...I almost want to keep it covered for now, and then show people the what's actually happening behind the curtain.

First impression upon calibrating and listening to some bass-heavy music: dear God...what did I just buy?!?!?!

The only thing I would like to see is the Rubber gasket around the driver like the 15" driver has. That would really polish the look off imo.

My V3601 showed up today, still playing with set up but all I can really say is wow. I replaced a SVS SB13 Ultra. This sub is is shaking the house at a fraction of the setting I was running the SB13 at. It's tight and impactfull. Going to put some hours on it and play with the settings before I let it really rip. It came very well packaged, perfect condition, it's really a nice looking sub.

There really is no comparison of the sb13 ultra and the v3601. I have never heard the 3601 obviously but I did have the sb13 and it was very anemic. It did have a nice sound to it but didn't hit very hard. It is way overpriced imo. You can get a lot more from PSA for a lot less money.
