I don't think anyone has ever compared the sound of the two (aside from Jim & Tom). The 3601 will have the output advantage so it goes to reason that the 3601 will sound the same or better within its limits. I believe the performance of the 3601 made the T18HT odd man out as they were very close.

I hope PSA returns to posting specs, frequency responses, and compression sweeps on the website. But, I guess sales are at an all-time high so only a few customers care. If no more technical info as posted on the website I hope it gets posted here.

With no more data-bass/Audioholics or @JimWilson testing likely for PSA, Brent Butterworth and future GTGs seem to be the only hope for objective data and subjective comparisons.

I think that was @ereed 's point. An offer was made for you to demo a JTR. I guess we just assumed it was too large. Our bad.

Now, the wait for the S7201 begins!

I'm leaning towards upgrading the S3000I for a S3601 but I think if I stacked 2 S3000I's it would look so bad ass
So, it sounds like the S3601 really is that much better than the S3000i?

I was thinking a single S7201 as I do have a single spot with really good response but the size is still a deal breaker. IF I were to upgrade it would likely be the dual S3000i to dual S3601 path
The S3601 is def better than a S3000I but a stacked s3000I would have an S3601 beat. I'm probably just going to go the S3000I to S3601 route.

Edit: Dual S3601'S is close to a S7201 so with dual S3601 u get close on the output but willl have a smoother responce with duals.

That's next to the 42(?) inch tv. So it really doesn't look very big in room

Also, first one who names the movie on the tv gets a free shirt.

There's so many that go in/out of the office. Big neo18(4 inch p-p?) with two big passive rads and maybe 2800 watts or so right now. The idea is to get V3601 performance from something V1801(or smaller) size. I got it to the "sounds amazing with music and movies" stage. But the last time we took it outside for some "max" stuff... it blew apart. So we still have some work to do. Like with all design ideas...might not see production. I just need something to keep me occupied with all my free time..

I should have added, the PRs are only inverted so I can adjust there mass easier. If it ever got to production they would be mounted in the conventional manner.

PSA owner once again

I am now the proud owner of a PSA 15S that I received over the weekend. I had dual PSA XV15s a few years ago but they got damaged by a tornado that hit my apt. in Dec. of 2015. I am thankful to be alive but most all my AV stuff got damaged. I had renter's insurance and have been replacing most of it. Anyway, first went with a SVS SB-1000 sub which was quite good for its size but I decided to sell it just recently . I wanted to come back to PSA and I am so glad I did.

The 15S sounds just superb with music and movies. I got it setup without any problem and it is directly behind my recliner which is the best place for it according to the sub crawl test. I have played a number of sacd and dvd audio discs since yesterday and the 15S sounds so tight and detailed with the bass notes. Steely Dan's Gaucho on sacd is one of my my favorites along with a couple of Diana Krall sacds. I am hearing bass lines with authority and kick drums like never before. I am trying to decide whether to have the room size control set to small or large so right now I have it exactly half way between with my gain control at the 1oclock postion. This is plenty loud for my approx. 2000 cft living room in my apartment.

For movies the 15S really shines when the action calls for it. Tron Legacy on 3D bluray looks great but the sound is unreal in this movie. I can hear every note of Daft Punk's great music score and the light cycle chapter really makes an impact that I can feel in my recliner. I love the sound of a sealed sub and even though the 15S is the the least expensive of the PSA lineup, it has such a great price/performance ratio and really puts out the bass with good definition.

Thanks to Tom and Jim for their unmatched customer service and dedication to building such a quality sub at an affordable price. By the way, I really like the way the 15S looks with the feet and the down firing configuration. Tom also included a black tshirt which looks really cool.

Tom: I take it the other sub in the picture didn't make the cut. Can you give us some details on the new sub. Why you chose this design over the other sub in the picture and why you didn't go the quad opposed route? Are there advantages with 1 over the others?

Edit: Sorry I missed a few post back explaining the other sub.

Equipment List: Benq W6000, Darbee DVP-5000S Video Processor, JKP Affinity 100 inch 16x9 .9 gain reference screen, Marantz SR7013 Receiver, 3-Marantz Ma700 and 2-Ma6100 monoblocks, 7.4.2 Atmos, B&W Nautilus 805 front speakers, B&W Nautilus HTM2 center speaker, 2 Volt 6 Atmos Speakers, Mirage HDT-R side speakers, Jamo THX surround one rear speakers, 2 LaVoce 21inch Neo DIY subs and 2 PSA S3600I'S.

We haven't sent Josh anything for 3(?) years so this isn't "breaking news now" or anything.. I don't believe ythmik, svs, , hsu, seaton, deep sea, have sent anything in the past 3-4-5 years either? But we always value input in these cases so you can bet Jim and I will be discussing this as time allows. Never say never.

See post 34944.

With box design there's a couple of cool things you can try to do with specific regards to driver mounting.

1) Force cancelling. This has the drivers mounted in such a manner that the moving mass of one driver cancels the next. Our S3000i(and S3601)are two examples. The benefit is you greatly reduce any cabinet vibrations and any negative impact that can have on the system performance.

2) Minimizing the distortions caused by driver(motor) non linearity. This only occurs if you have one driver's cone moving "in" toward the motor(magnets) and the next moving away.

There's a lot of design examples that use one or the other of the above, not so many that use both.

Agreed! This new sub should be called the ED-209 for sure.

You have ten seconds to comply.

It's been said many times. I believe this is the most comprehensive post/discussion.
