Haha.... hell I'd get the 7201 if boxing these things up wasn't such a pain....my mindset is , it's easier to unwrap a new sub than wrap and ship 1 back....the thought of shipping 2 S36s mentally exhausts me lol...thats why I still have 2 V18s stacked in my living room...

It's not too bad actually! When I got the v3601, they sent the boxing stuff for my 1801 to go back. I was quite proud of my packaging skills

When you get the S7201, you realize that packing up the old sub (s) was a cakewalk in comparison.

One thing I can confirm about the B stock 7201 is it's immaculate and has less than 6 hours of use. The new sub smell should still be there when you fire it up like Climber mentioned when he first used his. There's nothing like it that I'm aware of that's currently available for home use. You saw my ULF measurements in room response, granted I had a lot of in room gain responsible for 108dB at 6Hz with a MV of -9dB before the mic clipped. So what are you waiting for, you won't see that price again for a sub with 6 hours of use on it, thought I was getting a good deal at $3500..................

My space is about 27-2800^3 and that sub made my room feel like it was a vacuum, it sucked all the air out of my room and my lungs, I had to go outside to decompress.................

That's about the size of my room!! Yeah, definitely too much sub. JESUS! Is that even a thing?? I'm having the reaction to the thought of the 7201 in my living room that almost everyone has when they see my current setup lol. I guess it's all relative eh?

I thought and knew the V36s would be too much for my space after having the V18s...i talked to Tom on a Sunday and changed it to S36s...They aren't as loud as a V18 , or well maybe they are and then some , but the pressure they produce is what I was looking for.. if you have a V36 , then the S72 will not be any louder but just seriously pop your ear drums...and I'm just guessing off 2 S36s, the pressure they make in my large open room exceeds the 2 V18s.....maybe the V36 does that also , but right now I got what I was looking for........i only want 1 more because I have the space , if I didn't, then I would be satisfied..

Yeah I hear you. I don't know how the big sealed subs compare and contrast with the ported ones, but from the graphs I've seen, the low end power is off the chart with the big sealed ones. All the frequencies that you feel more than hear. One of these days I'll get a chance to hear/feel one.

I had an sb2000 when I first started and knew it wasn't enough even though it sounded great...it didn't fill my old room..it wasn't until the spring GTG that I got to hear a stack of 2 Seaton F18s that I thought Hmmmmmmm??? Granted I knew that to replace 2 V18s , I would need more than an S18 equivalent..What I thought would happen , happened and I have plenty of headroom , but I would like a 3rd to add "balance" lol

A GTG for us California Central Coast/Bay would be awesome, but it seems that most of the sub elite live in the central time zone! I think we are screwed on the west coast.

I have to be honest... I really want that S7201 in my home. But (and this is a huge BUT) I really love my dual V3601's. And in order to get the S7201 I would have to trade in my V3601's. I would consider doing that but my fear is if I did that I KNOW I would miss my ported subs too much.

The one thing I verified with my little comparison last week was exactly what imureh discovered when he went from ported to sealed and back to ported, some of us love the violent intensity of ported subs. The sealed subs are incredible at creating a black hole vacuum effect as they suck the very air right out of the room. But the ported subs explode with positive energy. POC described it really well when he said that his S3601's felt like they made the room IMPLODE. I agree with him because even the S1801 in my big room was trying to do that... pretty cool.

This is over simplifying things... but when I was running sealed vs. ported the V3601 made the room explode and the S1801 made it implode. Both are really cool effects and I would love to have both at the same time, but if I have to choose I like the explosive power of the ported sub a little more. So it's settled, I stick with the dual V3601's.

But then I start to wonder... what is that S7201 like? how brutal would that be? Would it be better than dual V3601's? Ughhhhhh.... I want both.

Seems you enjoy your s3601. That might be my next step up from my 15V but worry going sealed now that I've had ported. I worry about losing some of that violent type bass the ported is known for. How does one S3601 do in your room out of curiosity?

Alright, I have an S7201 running through a Denon X6300H. During certain sounds, such as the building falling at the end of Defenders, it sounds awful. Everything else sounds great. I've messed with the gain, room size, distance, sub level. . . This can't be normal but I feel like it has to be due to my inexperience with home subs. It sounds like the sub just can't handle the sound. I don't know exactly how to explain the sound other than that. Can anyone help me figure this out and get it dialed in so I can enjoy it without these random awful/embarrassing sounds coming out of it?

That is strange, i have the exact opposite experience.

Example: earlier i had a SVS PB12/2(ported), and on the song «gangnam style» by Psy, each time right before he sings : «oppom gangnam style», there is a vacumm effects that just empties the room. This was insane with the ported SVS, but was gone when i replaced it with a sealed S3000i.

Is the input switch on the sub amp set to RCA if you are using that input?

Have you run Audessey yet? Im thinking probably an issue with your gain config which we should be able to sort out pretty quickly. Also keep in mind that the source quality can have a huge impact on what you are experiencing.

Basically the performance of two v1500s in a custom install friendly format with external amp for 5k. For its given market the price isn't too bad, for ultimate bang for buck I'll have to pass.

I dont think youll get the brutality of dual v3601s with the 7201. I forget the exact calculation but if a ported sub is delivering 12db more output at port tune than its sealed equivalent youll need several s7201s to compete down low to what you already have. And dont underestimate the size of it, when Tom took me on the tour of the factory the v3601 enclosure he had looked like mini fridges compared to the big boy.

If you do want to upgrade I'd suggest holding off till the new sub with passive radiators that Tom has hinted at is released. That should deliver the violence you are looking for, with no port noise worries. My understanding is they will be relatively small and with a premium price to match. Maybe one or two near field with your v3601s further out, for full release of the bowels.

That really is interesting. I wonder if that has to do with the fact you are talking a music effect and I'm talking LFE. But probably what best explains our different findings is our use of the term "vacuum effect". We are probably using the same descriptor to describe very different experiences. I can't speak for the rest of you but I know I really struggle putting into words what I'm hearing and feeling when I listen to a sub. Which brings up a good point......

There is so much going on with LFE that it's very challenging to adequately describe how a sub reproduces it. For instance, I've never been in vacuum or in an implosion, I can only imagine what it might be like. So I guess it's a bit of a stretch to use those terms when describing the bass of a sub. On the other hand I have been around explosions and I know that they expand and resonate with great intensity. And to me, in my room, a ported sub sounds more like this while a sealed sub sounds a little less so.

So in the interest of full disclosure you guys can always assume three things...
1) I'm trying really hard to be accurate in my descriptions.
2) I'm probably fumbling around trying to find the right descriptors so YMMV... A LOT.
3) I'm having a lot of fun trying.

Well, I think it's safe to assume that the sub can handle the scene so I would be willing to bet that's purely a room response issue. Something is going on with that one scene that your room is creating havoc with. Can you describe what it's doing that sounds so awful?

It's an often forgotten fact that we hear the room as much as the sub. Many of us spend a ton of money on subs and then neglect room treatments or proper placement or calibration... all of which can completely change how a sub presents (I'm not saying you did this, I'm just bringing up a point).

None the less, have you tried rerunning Audyssey? Can you try the sub in a different location?
