I just talked via PM to @subacabra (Justin) and let him know what I thought of the 36s and offered some suggestions for setup. I know what these subs can do in my place and I'm just touching the surface of their capabilities. I advised him to take it slow adjusting sub boost and MV at moderate levels to start, in his size room the S36s will remove all O2 leaving him a perpetual vacuum, disorientation will surely prevail.

I warned if he likes his residence and doesn't want an eviction notice to please be careful unleashing these infrasonic weapons, they just come alive when you least expect it. I'm sure if he wants to he can entertain the entire condo population from within the confines of his own domain, these subs will resonate an entire building.

I explained how they just creep up on you, at first they seem to just purr and one may think they aren't very potent, what I've found to explain this is how well these subs seamlessly integrated with my mains, although they are very capable speakers they now sound like I have a perpetual wall of sound emanating from the front and back of my room. I didn't think I could replicate the ferocity of the 7201 in my place, I was wrong. The 36s seem to fill my place more evenly as the 7201 seemed like a single point source in time whereas the 3601s bombard from every direction with a subtle nudge to a fierce total pressurization of the listening room.

Having concrete walls and floors the entire space resonates with almost a nauseous effect and the tactile energy just pounds you into submission. I personally don't care for NF or VNF TR and prefer to feel the wave coming from a distance, the 36s have my floor vibrating and can feel the bass enter my feet and climb to my torso, I like that.....I've never heard a lion roar in real life but the rumble and growl these subs produce will have you thinking one's in your room.....to be continued....

Cheers Jeffrey
You summed up Sealed perfectly my friend. It's like a silent assassin, you are watching a movie and then bam you are hit with waves of energy and you are left staggered like you been kicked in the face by a donkey. Jeff, have you tried 1 sub up front and 1 in the back on the same side of the room with 1 up in the front corner and 1 in the back corner. I'm running 3 subs now with 2 in the front and 1 in the back and the wrap around bass effect is awesome.

Good luck and enjoy, curious to hear your impressions after re-calibration, also raise the trim levels in AVR after and turn up the MV.............
Thanks, I ran the calibration last night after the kids were in bed, but couldn't turn it up after that to check it out. I will see how it sounds after their nap this afternoon. The sub calibrated to -10 on the AVR, and I went ahead and set it to -4. I think this is the first time I want the kids to wake up early.

I had both the XS30 and the XS30SE. The SE driver upgrade is worth it and it's very simple, Tom sends you the new drivers and you swap them out and ship them back to PSA. Of course, there's a charge but the newer drivers are worth it. The XS30 with the older drivers are a beast also so if you decide not to do the upgrade no worries as it's a great sub.

You want those dual S3601's to shine then you need to feed them some Blu-rays from time to time.

There really is no difference in the quality of the bass available from the .1 track on a DVD vs Blu-ray [or 5.1 streaming]. Yes, Blu-ray offers lossless but lower frequencies are the easiest to compress without ill effect.

It's all in the mix. For the most part Blu will have the best available mix. However, there are some outliers in which the Blu-ray features an inferior LFE track. I believe Master & Commander is one such example.

Wasn't there some issue of that in the new UHD ? that were limited below 30hz as opposed to the Blurays not being?

Nothing that I know of inherent to the UHD format. Dolby and DTS:X formats are the same regardless of the medium. Some studios reserve the immersive tracks for UHD (disc or Vudu streaming, I hate this practice) while other include the same track in the standard and UHD Blu-rays.

The talk was likely more about many newer soundtracks which appear to be intentionally filtered below 30Hz. All of the Avenger movies and their more recent spin-offs come to mind.

Yes, I saw that somewhere too. 1st I'm all about the total audio spectrum presentation as I love crisp highs especially when it comes to music. While the audio tracks on DVD still sounds good I find it sometimes sounds outdated as a whole. I'm not a fan of streaming but I do watch some series on Netflix and also I have over 1K 1080P movies on my plex server but when I want the best I pop in a Bluray and enjoy.

I just bought two PSA XS30SE's for $1,600.00 They still have about a year of warranty and are in perfect cosmetic condition. I'm replacing my old faithful SVS PB12/2 Ultra which has been a wonderful sub. What should I expect when going with this dual setup? My room is 12.5X24 with 8' ceilings. I have one regular size open doorway that leads into the rest of the house. The number one thing that i watch is High quality Bu-Ray concerts with the occasional movie. I'm hoping for a more tight detailed sound from these sealed subs.

Best way to know is to hurry home and hook em up! Never heard the XS30s , but I really haven't seen or heard many negatives about PSA Sealed subs! I really dig mine!

Considering an upgrade....

Would there be any downside to placing an S3601 in a location where one driver fires into the room and the other is facing and inches away from the wall??

My VS30 is setup that way, diagonally in a corner. Only downside is that sometimes the wife on the other side of the house texts to turn it down....luckily she hasn't figured out how to switch Harmony Hubs on the Harmony app from family room to theater and turn it down herself

Different spots. Don’t see the point of colocating them, personally—if I were going to do that, I would just bought a single S3601. Would have been quite a bit cheaper!

I assumed so, was curious about the exact circumstances you mentioned. Got a single S1801 now, want a second, but I don't have anywhere to put it. Thinking about goong for the S3601. My single S1801 sounds beautiful in my MLP from where it sits now.

Hey Jeff, great to hear from you again, I was starting to get concerned. Good news about your brother but I'm sorry to hear that you spent the holidays in the hospital. Get fully recovered and let us know how those S3601's compare to the the other subs. Good to have you back.

I have one regular size open doorway that leads into the rest of the house. The number one thing that i watch is High quality Bu-Ray concerts with the occasional movie. I'm hoping for a more tight detailed sound from these sealed subs.
My media room dimensions are extremely close to yours, 13⅓'x24½'x8½'. I started with dual S1500s then moved to a S3000i and stacked the two 1500s. Diagonal/Catacorner placement worked great and had the best extension. I suggest trying it out. I also like this positioning for DO subs.

This is going to be my first placement try with the s3601's. Can't wait for the call from the freight company!!
Update: I arranged for weds morning delivery! Hoping they can take all my old subs then as well. Save them a bunch of money that's for sure.

3000i has a 2.6db advantage on average 16-100hz. They are within 1db from 16-50hz but the 3000i has a 5db advantage above 63hz. I like the idea of a 3000i as well since the drivers are the same as the S1500. The S1801 however might offer more placement options since it takes up less floor space.

I have thrown one of mine in the corner at 45degs with good results. It could probably be pulled out a little more , but dont have the space.
